Cleaning products, I need your help

12:46, Saturday, April 21, 2007 .. Posted in The Making of My Home .. 5 comments .. Link

We don't have carpet in the house, all cement floors, so I do alot of sweeping and mopping and I need your help.   I have a regular old broom and mop but I don't think they are working well enough.  When I sweep, I can see the dust just flying back up into the air.  When I mop, it just seems to push around the dirt sometimes instead of picking it up.  What do you all use?  I want to make my house clean but I also need something efficient.  I don't want to be sweeping dust back into the air and I don't want to be on my hands and knees mopping all the time.  So, any suggestions? Any products you just wouldn't be without?

Thanks in advance,

Rashel

What I do

I have wood floors in my dining room with deep grooves. If I tried to use a broom, the dirt just gets pushed down into the cracks. So, I use my vacuum instead! I have a Kirby that has the hardwood floor attachements.

Since the floors are concrete, you probably have to deep clean it at least once a month...i know i know...ugh...I would use a stiff push broom and a solution of oxyclean....clean it twice......you also might want to consider sealing your floors with a concrete sealer...this may make mopping easier.

i also use my vacuum on my tile/hard foors......and I have a GREAT mop i found at wal mart i think....it is a mop/bucket combo....the mop head is like a really thick towl & snaps on (sort of like the swiffer things) except i just pop it in the washer and wash with my throw rugs & i either bleach or borax it and it is wonderful.....better than ANY other mop i have ever used....it is called Vileda...my model is red and grey...i don't know if that has ever changed...i also remember that they had a couple of optional textured "pads" that you could buy. I am still using the one that came with the set....never had to replace it...just pop it in the washer...and i have had it for over 2 years......VERY economical!

me too!

I have hardwood floors and I have the same trouble. I can see the dust fly, and as soon as I mop I can see it build back up. I don't know if there is anything to 'repel' dust. I will check back to see others suggestions.

I use a swiffer, it works great on my hardwood floors and they have a anti bacterial one .
