Have I been deceived?
Yesterday as I was milling around homesteadblogger, I came across a website called Keeping The Home (not sure who had it on their links section). After going to this website, I clicked on the link about reading only King James Version of the bible. I looked into what she was saying, studied a little on my own.
Do I have my blinders on?? Do so many others have their blinders on??
I am not sure! This will take some more studying, praying, discussing it with other Christians whom I highly respect. I am so confused right now. I am also a little mad at myself for letting myself be deceived. If any of you have any insight on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
By the way, you can find teh website over on my links section.
SMILES!!!!

Well.............
The best way is to learn the Hebrew and the Greek.
The OT is written in Hebrew, and the NT in Greek and Aramaic.
ANY and ALL translations into the English language are 'inaccurate'.
Example: The English word Love.
The original Greek Language has FIVE different words for FIVE different expressions of love.......
Our English language has one.
So we 'translate' love in the Song of Solomon the same as we translate the word love for "the love John had for Jesus".
Um. Wrong.
The "love" in Songs, is "erros" which is $exual. The "love" in John is "agapeo" which is God's Love.
TOTALLY different.
So some will say KJV only.
Some will use KJV and NIV.
Some like "the message" and other fluffy translations that ready like a bed time story and have been watered down so much they have nothing to do with Jesus, really.........
And they are all wrong in saying they are right!!!
Learn the Hebrew and the Greek if you want to know what the Bible says!!

The KJV was one of the first full translations into the English Language. It was writeen under the supervision of the king. which is why words such as Baptism - were tranliterated (new word created) The king did not believe in Baptism by immersion - the word literally meant immersion in the Greek - but that would have offended the king - who was paying for the translation... That's just one example. I personally think the King James is poetic and very beautiful - My Greek professor from Bible College said that the American Standard was the most literal and true to the text translation according to his studies. I have heard that the NIV conveys the message - it is not a literal word for word (which would be cumberson and ackward) but it takes the idea nad phrases it into the meaning of today. Sit down and read several passages in different translations. It is true - ifyou want to find out the true meaning - take the time to learn Greek and read it in the original text. I personally do not think the KJV is theone and only. It is a translation - made by humans - there is room for error in all translations. The KJV also uses very old english which is difficult for us to understand and some have misintrepreted passages greatly using KJV since they do not have proper understanding of some of the words which have changed in meaning somewhat to today.
my 2 cents....
This can be controversial....

As a native Hebrew speaker and a scholar that dabbles in Greek, I can honestly say that there is no possible way that ANY language can be directly and completely accurately translated into another one. God especially confused the languages. I will say that the scholars who translated the original KJV had a respect for the Hebrew language which is not seen in some of the newer versions but it does have errors. How can anything that has errors be inerrant?? Even though I understand what KJV ONLY people are trying to say, it does not make sense to me when I see the errors. My identity is in God, Creator of the Universe, Father of Jesus the Messiah sent to be the final sacrifice who defeated death and fulfilled the foretold prophecies - NOT in a translation. I believe that the original Hebrew Scriptures are the inerrant Word of God. Jesus the Messiah quoted ONLY from these scriptures. His followers and disciples used the Original Hebrew Scriptures as did the authors of the Greek Scriptures. All through history we have been promised that He would send His Spirit to us to make His words clear to us. We need to trust in HIM, not in a specific translation.
Controversal
I do agree with you that this subject can be. I have also thought about the fact that not even the KJV is completely accurate. My problem is that I can see the errors in some of the versions. It makes me wonder. I, not being very educated beyond high school, wish I knew Greek and Hebrew. Then maybe I would know...lol. This is something that I will have to fervantly pray about. Thanks to all for responding.

I read this with interest and wanted to post a comment. Don't be mad at yourself. There are plenty of people who have been where you are - myself included. I think the subject can be controversial, but I don't know why, really. God's Word endures forever and we'll always have it, and I believe that, even though there may be inaccuracies in the KJV, that it is probably the closest we have in the English language to the original. It is enough for me that Godly men were persecuted and martyred for the translation of this Bible. I once worked for a well-known and respected christian leader in the USA who has letters from the translators of the American Standard Version and the NIV admitting false translations in their versions, so I do not read these ones (though to clarify this, I do believe the Bibles have been corrected since). I also do not at all like The Message. I think this is a watered down version of the Bible. God warns in Revelation about changing the words of Scripture, and I think many of these versions teeter on the danger of doing that. I think that if there is something you want clarified from the KJV, then as Laura suggested, going to find the original Greek or Hebrew is the best. There is a Bible out called the Zodiates Bible which is a KJV, with Hebrew and Greek translations in the back. It's quite a thick Bible, but my husband uses this one and likes it, as it is a quick reference without having to get the big concordance down.
I think the important thing is not to get too hung up on the whole issue. Keep it simple.
I personally use the KJV and use it for my children as well. The ancient use of the English language actually makes it easier to remember and recall, and it is beautiful and almost poetic.
Hope this helps,
Rachel from NZ

My family and I are Independent Fundamental Baptists and the Church that we attend only uses the KJV Bible. We believe that the KJV Bible is the best translation for the english speaking people. Luckily our Pastor has studied the Bible extensivley over the years and takes the time to explain to us such things as "erros" love and "agape" love while preaching. I like it when he stops preaching to give us the greek or hebrew word and definition because it gives me such a better understanding of what God is trying to tell us. The best Bible that I have ever owned is the Old Scofield Study Bible. My husband has a Thompson Chain Reference Bible. I happen to prefer my Bible over his, but they are both KJV. Many people think that the KJV is too hard to understand, but nobody will understand and comprehend everything in the Bible the first time (or 100th time!) that they read it. It is only through prayer, study, meditation, maturity and learning from other christians and a good Pastor that we can hope to acheive enough Biblical knowledge as to be a help to ourselves and others. I hope that this post is a help to you and that you find peace in your quest for the right answers. God bless you and yours.....
