Polydimethylsiloxane also known as Dimethicone - Is it in your shampoo???

Posted on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 01:56 - Post Comment

I was doing a search on the internet to find out what is in the store shampoos. Here is one of the ingredients in store shampoo Polydimethylsiloxane I did a search on. It is also known as Dimethicone

This ingredient is used in caulking, lubricating oils, heat resistant tiles, and SHAMPOO!

I just doesn't sound like something I would want to put on my hair.

By the way, I am still no store shampoo!

Infobox disclaimer and references

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is the most widely used silicon-based organic polymer, and is particularly known for its unusual rheological (or flow) properties. Its applications range from contact lenses and medical devices to elastomers, in shampoos (as dimethicone makes hair shiny and slippery), caulking, lubricating oils and heat resistant tiles.

PDMS is optically clear, and is generally considered to be inert, non-toxic and non-flammable. It has been assigned CAS number 63148-62-9, and is occasionally called dimethicone. It is one of several types of silicone oil (polymerized siloxane).

That is weird, Shampoo is not an ingredient. What minds think that people will fall for that. You would have to have another shampoo bottle around just to know the ingredients to the ingredients. (that does make sense, right?)

so you make all your soap? we have an upcoming lesson in our "Exploring Gods Creation through Botany" and we make will make herbed soap with glycerin bars. I always wanted to make homemade soap. But am worried about the lye. I have very touchy skin and can't use anything but dove. I haven't found ANY shampoo that doesn't make my skin crack.
