It Hatched!!!!!
Posted on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 12:23 - Post Comment
My sister incubated some eggs for the first time. Here is whet she got out of twenty-five eggs. One loud little fuzzy chick. Isn't it cute?!?
It has been living in her room in a cardboard box under a heat lamp since it hatched. It can be very loud, sometimes we can hear it all the way down stairs.
We had two others that started to break out of there shells, but then they died. We also heard one of the chicks peeping in it's shell.
My sister didn't have enough water in the incubator, so I think it made the chick's shells so hard that they couldn't get out.
She candled them and she took out all of the unfertile eggs out.
It was so neat to see them hatch out. One of the chicks worked so hard to get out, but then it died.
I think she is going to try to hatch some more soon.
Does anyone else incubate their own eggs? What was your experience with it?

We incubated a few eggs last spring and the baby chicks were so adorable. They grew to not be like the normal chicken, but rather very tame.My favorite rooster would jump up on my lap when I went outside to be petted.I hope to incubate some more this spring.
Thanks for sharing,
Hugs,
Rachel

The last time I incubated eggs was in kindergarden! We had egg partners (I was in public school at the time), and my then best friend, Dara, was mine. The teacher put a number on each egg so that they could be identified.
We waited for days for our eggs to hatch but nothing happened. My teacher figured that the eggs were dead and was going to throw them away at the end of the week.
Then one day Dara and I were in the painting nook finger painting, when we heard a noise behind us. We turn to see a baby chick half way out of its shell, and who's egg was hatching, ours! I even remember the name we gave this cute little chick, Sweet Pea.
Only three eggs hatched and one of the babies died. We raised them for a while in our class room and once they were old enough they went to a girl in our class, Sammy, who's parents owned a pumkin farm with a petting zoo.
Well I am going on and on. Talk to you later.
Your Friend,

Hey ,if it isn't to late for the chicks that yall hear peeping you can carefully make a crack so the chick doesn't run out of air . I have even help a bit more than that ,and they make it just fine. The shell is to hard for them to peck out and their air will run out if they can't get out quick enough. So, remember that it's ok to help them , if you hear them peeping . Good luck , Shaune

I havent raised them in several years, but my dad used to help me raise them through our local 4H club. I had several blue ribbons from them. We had high success w/incubation. I will talk w/him about it and get back w/you. I do remember helping them out a little, though in getting out of their shells. They are such cuties when they are babies! Several of mine were tame, but I had to pet them EVERY day to keep them that way...

Oh, we just started hatching peeps, we only got 2 out of 12 eggs, but we learned alot online and plan to try again next week after we gather about 12 more. We learnt the moister wasn't right and we had a hard time keeping the temp just right so we hope to do better this time, we just bought a fan and egg turner to help us out!
