The End to Diary with No Shampoo

Posted on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 03:59 - Post Comment

I have been without commercial shampoo for somewhere near 80 days.
I have been using different things for my hair in replacement of commercial shampoo. I have used whipped egg whites, homemade soaps, baking soda, and apple cider vinegar. These things have been working great for my hair up until these past few weeks,
My hair feels very sticky now and has the smell of smoke. I think that the sticky feeling on my hair is sebum.
My hair just doesn't seem to be coming clean, right now. For the past two days, I have used baking soda, to take of the sticky feeling and apple cider vinegar, to help rinse of the baking soda and the build-up feeling of my hair. Even after washing with these for two days in a row the sticky feeling is just not going away.
When I take a shower, a lot of hair is falling out, more than normal.
So, for right now, this is good-bye to the 'no 'poo' hair treatment. Tomorrow, I will go back to washing my hair in the store stuff.
This is the end of my Diary with no shampoo......for now. I will probably go back to 'no 'poo' someday. I will share with you when I do.

Hmmm...

Maybe you can just use less. I find especially being in the country that things will build up in the hair. Working in the barn... YUCK my hair will really smell. But like you say, my hair gets thick and sticky with some type of residue. I find that using shampoo once a month is enough for me... unless I had two really bad days in the barn... or say it is a really windy day my hair just eats up the dust and debris... Once washed out with a little soap ( a shampoo bar might work good too... they are less harsh than shampoo) the residue is gone and my hair no longer needs soap for quite some time. One must be reasonable about doing thigs. I mean, if the hair is dirty and one shampoo a month is going to help it be workable, presentable, etc. why not? I guess using less is more healthy, more cost efficient than using it every day. Likely you are also producing more oil beings you are in your teens... eventually that will lessen and you will not struggle with so many problems later on. Anyways, I am glad you tried it. It is nice to see young girls trying something to be more frugal, more healthy, more back to how God made us to be. Now, if we could just figure out what that meant for our hair! LOL. I struggle with dry frizzy hair... and shampoo does dry out your hair... so I have to avoid it... but I haven't found the cure all yet. It is way better than before, but humid days give me frizzy hair. On those days it is best to just pull it back into a band and just forget about it, cuz NOTHING will help. *grin* at least nothing I've found so far. (Yesterday was one of those days and my daughter... another curly one, was complaining about her hair and I said... have you looked at mine and she looks and makes an awful face and a sound I cannot type, LOL. And she sighed, knowing at least her hair wasn't as bad as mine. LOL.

Warmly, ~Melissa

No-'Poo'-do

That is often the problem with going all-'Natural' at once, some things do not work, and mixing things can often leave a bad result. Other times it is becuse you put your hair in shock, switching over right away can cause your scalp to have a reaction, one you may not see until a few months later. Next time, after you have restored your hair with reagular shampoo, switch over a little at a time. Wash your hair wth the eggs, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wash it with regular shampoo. Or you could go to a health food store, they often sell shampoo with less chemicals in it.

Sincerely,

~Mary-Ann~
