These are my pad sets. They come with three pieces. They are made with flannel, 100% natural, unbleached cotton (that is used for the onside of the pad), and fleece. They are 11 layers thick!

This is one of my all-in-one pads. They are five layers thick, made with flannel, 100% unbleached, natural cotton, and fleece.

These are the cloth wipes. They are double thickness, sewn and turned. Very Cute! They come in a set of six.

Not Usually

Posted by Cindeerella on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:47 - Link - Edit - Delete

I only read posts where the title is something interesting because I do not like to spend too much time on the computer.
I have a few regular blogs I visit, but they are more informational blogs on things I am interested in....cooking, decorating, etc...
My personal blog here on HSB is mostly for family members and close friends, not for the general public.
Why does it matter to you if people read your blog or not?

You asked, "Why does it matter to you if people read you blog or not?"

My purpose for my blog is to share what I know with others here in this blog community and and with others on the web. Nobody in my family knows about my blog, except for my mom, dad, sister, and brother.

If nobody read my blog, there would be no purpose to blog. That is why I made that post, to see if anybody actually cared about what I write and share here.

Most of the posts on my blog are informative and educational, I am trying to devote my blog only for posts about cooking, gardening, sewing, and other things that would help a homesteader.

I try to put interesting titles on my posts.

Polydimethylsiloxane also known as Dimethicone - Is it in your shampoo???

Posted on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 01:56 - 3 Comments - Post Comment - Link

I was doing a search on the internet to find out what is in the store shampoos. Here is one of the ingredients in store shampoo Polydimethylsiloxane I did a search on. It is also known as Dimethicone

This ingredient is used in caulking, lubricating oils, heat resistant tiles, and SHAMPOO!

I just doesn't sound like something I would want to put on my hair.

By the way, I am still no store shampoo!

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is the most widely used silicon-based organic polymer, and is particularly known for its unusual rheological (or flow) properties. Its applications range from contact lenses and medical devices to elastomers, in shampoos (as dimethicone makes hair shiny and slippery), caulking, lubricating oils and heat resistant tiles.

PDMS is optically clear, and is generally considered to be inert, non-toxic and non-flammable. It has been assigned CAS number 63148-62-9, and is occasionally called dimethicone. It is one of several types of silicone oil (polymerized siloxane).

Is Anybody Reading My Posts???

Posted on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 12:57 - 15 Comments - Post Comment - Link

Does anybody read my posts? I was just wondering because, I only get one or two comments for each post I post. Does that mean only one or two people are reading my posts?

I am trying to see how many people actually read my posts. So, if you read my posts could you leave a comment just to say that you read it? I am trying to see if my blogging here is worth it.

---------------------------------------------------------------
This is my post for the first week's theme Tie One On. 4/7/08 through 4/11/08
---------------------------------------------------------------
This is my favorite apron of my many aprons. It  was given to me, by my Granny. She knows that I like old things and aprons, so she gave it to me. I am not sure of where it came from. I can tell that is it a hand-made apron and that it is a vintage apron.

I enjoy imagining who the apron was made by or who the apron belonged to before me. Did it belong to a mother or a granny?
What kind of foods did they cooked while wearing this apron? Fried chicken, chicken gravy and mashed potatoes? Maybe an apple pie?
I imagine these kind of things while I am wearing this apron and all of my other old aprons.
Aprons and other old things are special to me because they help me imagine ways that are different than today. The ways of the past.
Here is a picture of it.
Here is a close-up of the fruit design.
Isn't it pretty? I love the fruit design on this apron and the bright colors!

Plasticine: Do you Know What it is? I DO!!!!

Posted on Monday, April 14, 2008 at 06:05 - 4 Comments - Post Comment - Link

For my family's homeschooling, we read lots and lots of books. I am finishing reading the book Mary Poppins in  the Park by P.L. Travers. It is a very exciting book! There is always something exciting in every chapter, so it will really hold young children's attention. My brother LOVES being read too. He loved to hear any kind of story!

One of the chapters in the book was called,"Park in the Park". That chapter was talking about Jane making little platicine people and making a tiny park within the park she was in.

I couldn't figure out what plasticine was. My brother kept saying, "What is plasticne?" I didn't know......until we saw a package if it at the Cracker Barrel. It was on sale too, so Mom bought a package of it to play with and make are own little people like Jane did in the story.

Here is the person I made

For those of you who don't know what Plasticine is, it is....well....it's plasticine. It is like a clay, playdough type of thing. It is really fun to play with and it never dries out!

The camera is dead so I couldn't load the picture of my brothers on here.

It is interesting how I discovered something, through a book, that I might have never noticed in my life. You can really learn from books! My family doen't do much of a curriculum, we just read, write, and do math.

Any person would enjoy Mary Poppins in the Park by P.L. Travers. it is so exciting!! My favorite chapter was the first one in the book, "Every Goose a Swan". My little brother and I laughed and laughed and laughed at the charactors in that chapter! It was too funny!

It is so neat to see how much a young child enjoys a book. Some parts of the book I thought he wasn't really listening to, but I found out later when he was telling EVERYBODY about it who would listen. He kept saying,"Oh, It is so funny. You have to read that book."

It gives me such a good feeling to see how much he enjoys being read to.

That is all for now!

My Hair Still Feels GREAT!!!!!

Posted on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 07:46 - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link

I am still washing my hair in whipped egg whites and my hair feels WONDERFUL!!! Today, when I took my shower, I put some olive oil on the ends of my hair. Olive oil makes my dry ends full of moisture!

When I was using store shampoo, my hair was so flat. Now I have a little body to my hair! I love it!

My Diary of no Shampoo---Day 6 and 7

Posted on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 10:01 - 3 Comments - Post Comment - Link

Here is day 6 and 7 of no shampoo. Day 7 was today and day 6 was yesterday.

Day 6 (yesterday, Thursday April 3rd)-

I didn't do anything to my hair. When I got ready for bed, I brushed to distribute the oils to the rest of my hair. I now can feel my hair getting a little oily. I haven't shampooed my hair with egg whites since Monday, I have been rinsing my hair with water when I took my showers earlier in the week.

Day 7 (today, Friday April 4th)-

Today my hair feels as oily as it usually does when I use store shampoo, which is a lot of oil. I shampooed it with whipped egg whites. It feels GREAT!

It will be an entire week tomorrow that I have been without store shampoo! I really feel the difference in my hair! It is great! Usually, with store shampoo, my hair and the top of my hair was practically soaked with oils, it was disgusting. Shampoo would dry my scalp out so bad and then I would start to get oily just an hour or two after I shampooed my hair. Now my hair has moisture in it, egg shampoo does not dry out my hair, and my hair is way less oily. My hair is softer, healthier looking, and I now have a little bit of natural wave back to my hair like I used to have when I was little.

If you have problems with store shampoos or if you are looking for a natural shampoo try this. Give it a week or two to get use to it. I think you will really like the results!

My Diray of No Shampoo----Day 5 Part 2

Posted on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 07:28 - 3 Comments - Post Comment - Link

If you all read yesterday's day of my diary of no shampoo, I said I might post a part two of day 5. Here is what I did with my hair last night.

Last night (Day 5) I took a shower and only rinsed my hair and rubbed my finger through my scalp like I would when I would shampoo my hair it. I also conditioned it.

When my hair dried it was really clean!

I will post Day 6 of my diary later. I haven't done anything with my hair today. I will probably shampoo it tonight with egg whites.

My Diary of No Shampoo----Day 4 and 5

Posted on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 05:51 - 4 Comments - Post Comment - Link

I am a little late with this post, it should have been posted yesterday.

Day 4 (this was yesterday) - I didn't wash or rinse my hair today. I wanted to see how oily and smelly my hair would be. Normally, my hair stinks if I don't wash it everyday. There wasn't that much oil in my hair at all, it didn't smell either!!! That really excites me that it wasn't all that oily or smelly!

Day 5 (today) - I woke up this morning thinking my hair would be really, really oily and really really stinky, but to my surprise......IT WASN'T!!!!

I didn't wash it today, I will probably wash it before bedtime. The egg shampoo is really working for me!

If I do wash it, I will post about tonight as My Diary of No Shampoo---Day 5 Part 2.

The egg shampoo works for all different types of hair. My sister does it, her hair is sort of dry. For awhile, my sister was using store shampoo and was washing her hair everyday, during this time her hair became very, very oily. I read on the internet that shampoos from the store causes this reaction that me and my sister had because it strips out all the oil from the scalp so the body thinks to make more. Zapping so much out from the scalp makes a body work over-time, so you become so oily that you have to wash everyday.

The egg shampoo cleans your hair and does not make the body react in that way.

Try this shampoo, I think you will like it.

I use two egg whites I whipp it with the mixer until it is really foamy. It reminds me of meringue when it is finished. I (well, actually my mom) rub it onto my scalp until all of the shampoo in the bowl is used. Then, I rinse it out when I take a shower.

I still use store conditioner, I hope to find something to replace that.

*It is best to rinse the egg shampoo with warm or cool water, not hot. Sometimes, when the egg shampoo is rinsed with really hot water it it will stay in the hair. I guess it kind of cooks it.

Read my other days in my diary.

My diary of No Shampoo---Day 3

Posted on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 10:16 - 5 Comments - Post Comment - Link

This is the third day of my no shampoo diary.

Today I shampooed my hair in whipped egg whites. My hair looks way better than it did with store shampoo and feels a whole lot better too!

I have been rubbing some of the whites on my face and it clearing all of my blackheads and pimples from my face.

My Diary of No Shampoo----Day 1 and 2

Posted on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 12:31 - 4 Comments - Post Comment - Link

I have quit using store shampoo, instead I wash my hair in whipped egg whites. It works great!!! This is my second day for my no poo do. I will be sharing the diary of my experience with no shampoo.

First I need to tell you a little about my hair. This is how my hair is while using store shampoo.- I have long fine hair and I have alot of it. My hair, face, neck, and back are oily, very oily. The rest of my body is dry, hands, legs, arms...... I shampoo my hair almost every day. My hair is only clean for a few hours after my shower, by bedtime my hair smells...it really stinks......really oily by this time too.

Day 1 (yesterday) -  I shampood my hair in whipped egg whites, conditioned the ends of my hair (with store bought conditioner ), and finished my shower. My hair was very easy to comb and when it dried it looked very nice!

Day 2 (today) - When I woke up my hair felt a little oily in the back of my head, but my hair was not as oily as it usually is when I use store shampoo.

Today when I took my shower I didn't shampoo my hair with anything. I just rinsed my hair and conditioned  the ends of my hair.

I thought my hair would be kind of oily since I just rinsed my hair instead of shampooing, but it is not at all! It is very clean! No smell of oily hair like I usually have when using store shampoo.

This is the first two days of my experiece, I will share more tomorrow.

Herbs Garden

Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 09:55 - 2 Comments - Post Comment - Link

This year, my family is going to plant an herb garden, I am very excited!

We went to the Wal-Mart and bought many different types of herb seeds. We bought Corainder/Cilantro, Lavender, Calendula, Nastrium (sp?), Echinea (we call it purple cone flower), Parsley, Lemon Balm, and others.

I want to learn all of the uses and medicinal purposes of herbs. I also want to use herbs that I grow in foods, make tea with them, and make beauty products. I found this recipe for a body spray that I might try. I might share it with you all some time.

If you have any tips about herbs to help me out, please share them!

It Hatched!!!!!

Posted on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 12:23 - 6 Comments - Post Comment - Link

My sister incubated some eggs for the first time. Here is whet she got out of twenty-five eggs. One loud little fuzzy chick. Isn't it cute?!?

It has been living in her room in a cardboard box under a heat lamp since it hatched. It can be very loud, sometimes we can hear it all the way down stairs.

We had two others that started to break out of there shells, but then they died. We also heard one of the chicks peeping in it's shell.

My sister didn't have enough water in the incubator, so I think it made the chick's shells so hard that they couldn't get out.

She candled them and she took out all of the unfertile eggs out.

It was so neat to see them hatch out. One of the chicks worked so hard to get out, but then it died.

I think she is going to try to hatch some more soon.

Does anyone else incubate their own eggs? What was your experience with it?

Easy Italian Pasta Bake....YUM!

Posted on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at 05:47 - 3 Comments - Post Comment - Link

I tried a delicious new recipe for supper. It is call Easy Italian Pasta Bake. I found it on the back of the Kraft Parmesean container.

Here is the recipe if you all would like to try it!

  •  1 lb. ground beef, I only used 1/2 lb.
  • 3 cups penne pasta or rotini pasta, cooked and drained. Rigatoni also works fine, that is what I used....I got the names mixed up when I was shopping!
  • 1 jar (26 oz.) spaghetti sauce
  • 1/3 cup Kraft 100% Grated Parmesean and Romano Cheese, divided.
  • 1-1/2 cups of Kraft Mozzarella Cheese

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Brown meat in large skillet; drain. Add pasta, sauce, and half of the Parmesean and Romano cheese; mix well.

Spoon into a 13 X 9 inch baking dish. Top with mozzarella and remaining Parmesean and Romano cheese.

Bake 20 minutes or until heated through.

Makes 6 servings, 1-1 1/3 cups each.

I had a two mistakes, this being the first time I made it.

I used Rigatoni pasta instead of Rotini pasta. I got a little confused when we went shopping.

I didn't divide the Parmesean cheese, you might have noticed I colored the word divided in the recipe.

It still turned out good and it it tastes great.

I have a good Garlic French Bread recipe that would have gone good with this recipe, but I didn't have enough time to let it bake.

                    Have a Good Day!
