Well, to start I thought I had the picture thing figured out...evidently not, since there is nothing in the place where it should be. So for awhile I'll just post them to my photo album. Things have finally settled down in WV, electricity back on, drive way fixed (thanks to a wonderful neighbor and his tractor), and we made the trip to Fort Knox to pic up National Guard son...it's so good to have him home..well, he's out running around, but you all know what I mean. The graduation ceremony at Fort Knox was wonderful, the army does such a good job making this special for the troops. One thing that was special was the way the audience reacted to the film that was shown of our soldiers training, and fighting for our country. We definitely were not Politically Correct, but the patriotism was inspiring. What a difference from what we hear on the news. And you have to remember these are the people who are really sacrificing for our couintry...sacrificing sons, daughters, husbands, wives. These were not the news people or people in the limelight enjoying the freedoms that our country has but never appreciating what it really costs, just judging the ones who are trying to keep this country free...free to worship God in our own way, free to be Christian without fear of jail, free to work for food, clothing and shelter..ok that's enough preaching for today...lol We went down Wed night, but couldn't get on base for his 3 hour pass because ds #1 forgot his insurance card and we had to have it faxed to the hotel. So grandkids had a chance to play in the pool. If any of you are ever in the Elizabethtown, Ky area please make a note to stay at the Best Western Atrium Gardens Motel, the motel is nice and clean and the indoor pool area is wonderful. After the ceremony we went to the PX and had lunch, then headed to the Cavalry store to pick up souviniers (sp?). It took us almost 8 hours to make a 6 hour trip because of road construction. But, finally made it home about 10:30 last night. On the way down we sort of didn't follow the directions...yes, a man was driving and navigating, but we went through Bardstown, KY and it was absolutely wonderful. Full of historical buildings, beautiful farm land, gorgeous houses. We also saw a Dinner Train sitting at a depot and that really peaked my interest. I would love to be able to go back to Bardstown for a few days and just enjoy the sights. I'll try to get some pics posted later...have a wonderful day. Barb

Yesterday evening a storm came through the little town of Newton, didn't seem too severe, just lightning, heavy rain and a little wind....but boy did it reek havok. We have been out of power since 5:00 pm yesterday (its now 1:00 pm), and part of the problem you can see in this pic. This used to be big pine tree fell acrossed our driveway and the main road, right onto the electric line. My dh hooked up the generator to keep the freezers running, and Yes, the computer in one room works. I guess my money saving tip of the day is...no electricity means a smaller bill.,(LOL)

What a beautiful day that the Lord has given us, the sun in shining through the windows, the dog is chasing the cat through the house....I can hear the birds chirping, the roosters crowing... We had a really good weekend. No running around just stayed home and did some chores that needed to be done. We are in the process of looking for a church, and attended one yesterday am that was wonderful. It is a fairly new church, but wanting to do a lot of work in their neighborhood. They have plans to reach the children, start a preschool, and later on a Christian school. If we end up attending this church that will be a big challenge for me. I have such a burden for christian schools, but due to fibromyalgia problems I am not able to teach. It is either teach, or do what I should be doing at home and with my family. Oh, and we rented a movie last night "National Treasure 2" my dh knows how much I loved the first and has been after me for weeks to rent it. The funny thing is while we were watching the movie my dh very seriously said" When is Indiana Jones gonna be in the movie?" He was relally surprised when I said "Honey, thats a different movie!" So evidently HE really wanted to see the movie, when I thought he was just being considerate of me....so funny. Anyway, the movie was awesome and one that I will hopefully add to my collection. Today, I have several things planned: clean house wash clothes, hang out do some sewing unthaw frozen blackberries and try new recipe to turn them into canned pie filling and of course watch "National Treasure 2" again...and again(only kidding) I'll try to post later in the day when maybe I will have gotten something done....

Yesterday morning we visited a young girl in the hospital (Praise the Lord she will be going home today after a skull fracture and bleeding of the brain). Anyway, we stopped at the Feed Store and uh,oh, they had chicks for sale. It doesn't take much to thrill me and I have wanted for years to just walk into the feed store and pick out some chicks!! The chickens that we have were bought full grown and yes, we do have some chicks that hatched out, but I have never bought any. So, we came home with 6 new chicks. Yesterday afternoon and evening we had a family cookout. It was a wonderful time, but we were missing 2 of the family. Our youngest son is in Fort Knox, KY in boot camp with the National Guard, and the other is in MIss. on a 3 week training with the National Guard. The past 4 months (with the youngest gone) have been really hard, but I can tell by his letters that he has grown up mentally and spiritually. Howver, we had a good time with dd and family and daughter-in-law. One of my grandsons stayed alnight and I'll bet he has been out petting the new chicks 20 times. God has really blessed this family in the fact that we are all still living fairly near, and I want to enjoy every minute that I can. Money saving tip of the day: Don't pass up the day old (or even 2) donuts at the store for a reduced price. Buy the glazed ones and fry them in butter. Just enough to warm the insides and make a little crust on the outside. YUMMY!

I turned on the tv this morning and the first Little House movie was on, what a blessing those shows and books are. I loved reading them to my kids when they were young, and love reading them still. But, I must admit I only liked the shows when the Little House kids were young. Things got too serious when they grew up and had grown-up problems.(LOL) It is a gorgeous morning in WV, God has blessed us with sun shining through the window and warming us. Josie (dachaund?) is laying on the carpet in the sun and warming. My dh is already at the garden planting the tomatoes that he grew from seed, and has already washed a load of clothes for me to hang out on the line(do I have a wonderful dh or what?) God has blessed me with a husband who doesn't mind helping around the house and understand about my fibromyalgia and most of all the I am NOT a morning person. Things to accomplish today: read my Bible(Acts), I am so human and tend to skip this most important thing hang out the clothes work on my homemakeing binder do some sewing clean the house put away groceries bought last night
Money saving tip for the day: make or purchase cheap fabric napkins, I just find left over pieces of material in my stash and cut them to the size I want, then I sew a line about 1/2 in. to keep them from completely raveling out...wash and let ravel,

Also are included are pics of spring flowers in my flower bed and the soldiers marching at Fort Knox, KY. This was during Family Days when this group of young men graduated Boot Camp, my son is in this group...but I missed his head. |

It's been a busy(lol) here in West Virginia. So far this morning I have done some sewing...prettying up a pair of blue jeans for my 3 month old granddaughter and just general sewing. My neighbor and I share chickens and this morning we decided that the chicks weren't getting enough food and heat so I brought them into our building and set them up in their new home. One in general seemed to have no strength, so I am sort of babying it. I go out every so often and make sure it gets a drink. As soon as I figure out how I will post pics of the chicks..aren't baby creatures precious. I have decided to make a homemaking journal, usually I can't find directions when I need them. So, I am going to include things like lye soap recipes, homemade laundry detergent recipes...etc. I really think we need to be getting back to the "old paths" because of the economic condition of this country. I also want to include birthdays, anniversaries..etc. Things that I generally forget. As a Christian I need to be reading my Bible and praying more so that will be included in the journal. Maybe it will help keep me ontrack.
