Something else from today

I have to share something that came up during our time at court today. I wrote the verses the Lord gave me [Psalm 34:18-19, Psalm 40:17 and Exodus 14:13] plus Psalm 37:4 and the prayer I shared earlier on a small piece of paper and tucked it in my pocket. I pulled it out and kept it in my hand the entire time we were at the courthouse. I kept referring to it- especially when my stomach felt as if it were turning inside out and I felt like I would shake/vibrate right off the bench.
During one of the numerous times we were outside the courtroom “conferring” with the lawyer he asked what it was that I kept reading and rereading. I smiled softly and told him it was my special verse for today. He asked me what it was. I was truly able to smile at him and state, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand where you are and watch the Lord rescue you. Exodus 14:13”. His response was something along the order of “Oh, you’re religious.” I smiled and nodded. In that moment I felt such incredible peace and I thanked God for the opportunity to share that verse out loud in that place.
While driving home from the brouhaha-- I prayed for that young man. It was obvious from a couple of statements he made and the fact that he is a Collections Lawyer that he is not walking with the Lord. [Ahem, he stated his grandfather was a preacher and that he, himself had "fallen away, ha-ha". And I do not know how anyone who loves the Lord could reconcile with being a collections lawyer- really! And yes, it is that bad, people.]
Anyhoo- later on when Mr. Steady and I were having our post-traumatic pow-wow at home afterwards, discussing our plan and how we’ll be able to make this work etc. He said to me, “You know this may sound funny to you but I prayed for that lawyer. He is just so lost.” Mr. Steady looked me right in the eye with a shake of his head and a sad look on his face over the fate of that young man and firmly stated again, “Really Hon, that man is LOST.” I shared with him how I too had prayed that some how, some small way I had just been able to witness to that young man and that he would be reminded of us and what I shared long after today. We both agreed that we must continue to pray for this young lawyer and marveled at another way that God may be able to use us in this situation.
So today, somewhere out there is a young lawyer who thinks he’s got the world by the tail and we’re praying that God get’s a hold of his and doesn’t let go!
Lord, I pray that you will bring other people, into this young man’s life, that will stand as testimonies to you. Lord, let there be others lifting him up in prayer. If need be Lord- bring him his Damascus Road- meet him Lord. Speak to him Lord. And thank you for the opportunity today to be a Son-reflector during one of the darkest moments of my life. Thank you for drawing me away from my own circumstance and gently reminding me that I may never hold riches in this world as the world sees “riches” but that I am more richly blessed than I could ever imagine. Thank you, Lord, for the husband who loves and adores me- who stands beside me and holds my hand and accepts my faults as his own. Thank you that while we aren’t solvent on paper- we’re solvent where it counts most- with you and in our marriage. Thank you for showing me today how much I truly have- because You’ve given it to me. I thank you and praise You for the hope that has been restored. Thank you for making me Yours in every way that counts!
Bring the rain Lord- I’m finally figuring out how to prepare the field!
Amen!

Amy,
So glad that's over!
From what I am hearing, I think you may be getting $2100 in the tax refund (economic package from Congress) this June. Is that enough to pay off one or two of the loans with the credit counseling agency?
I think your plan is good. If you can knock off those smaller loans as quickly as possible, then your budget won't be as suffocating once you apply those payments to the bigger, three year debt.
May I ask what kind of interest rate you are paying on the big debt? From what I read, it seems that the credit card companies are just killing people with extremely high interest rates (in the 20s!). It's no wonder people get trapped in their debt and can't get out.
Did you see 60 Minutes Sunday night? They had a story on how people (they focused on CA) have bought houses that have gone down so much in value that they are intentionally foreclosing, living basically rent free for months without paying their mortgage while the foreclosure proceeds, and then just mailing their keys to the lender (called "jingle mail"). You can see it on the CBS website. But, most of these people put little or nothing down, so other than a bad credit rating for 7 years, they are coming out way ahead financially by just walking away from their mortgage.
This is the third time this week I have heard someone mention the name David Ramsey. Where do you read or hear his information?

It would be grand if the government would give us such an amount (although I'm still not holding my breath). And yes it would go a long way to paying down this debt!
As for the interest rate- 13%. Which as you know, is a LOT better than when we had the credit card!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
