Color Analysis

We are beginning our spring re-arranging/remodeling here. The storage room off the kitchen is soon to become my new office (and future homeschool room). I am looking for informed opinions as to what color I should paint it. My office right now is sky blue- but I'd like a change since I've got to paint anyway. We will be redo-ing the kitchen in the fall . . . . A buttery yellow on top 1/4 of walls and a wonderful dreamy shade of green on the bottom 3/4. Since it's right off the kitchen- should I cooridinate colors?

I saw an office in a Pottery Barn catalog that was painted a deep red and I really liked it (white accents and trim as well as white office furniture) but we only have one window (plus a window in the door to outside). My DH told me that color is too dark for the room and we need something to "open it up" more. The ceiling is slanted as this was an add-on to the house back in 1930's (I think). The walls are textures and one wall is all taken up by a built in closet and cubbies (which due to a limited redecorating budget- we will be keeping instead of ripping out.) The cubbies/closet are a dirty shade of brown right now.

I also know that some colors promote energy while others comfort and a relaxed atmosphere.

So does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking I'd like to paint the cubbies/closet in a dull grey- don't know why but the color spoke to me in the paint dept @ the store.

Painting your school room

I was just browsing through different blogs on the homestead site checking it out and decided to comment on your post. It's hard to know what to advise because you didn't say how big the room was or how many children will be homeschooling there (I haven't yet looked at the rest of your blog to see how many you will be homeschooling). Anyway, here are some things my friend and I have done in our school rooms (outside storage rooms redone for school).

I agree that a lighter color is better because of just one window. I went with basic white because I had a lot of colorful stuff put up on the walls and because we did a big animal mural that added a lot of color to one blank wall. My son is planning to do graffiti art (he's 14) on his blank wall. We're still working on the design trying to find one we both will accept.

My friend, whose school room is very small, hung those cheap accordian shades (looks like honeycombs from the side) from the ceiling as a divider between the sections of each child's desk to give them a bit of privacy when they need or want it. They can pull them up whenever they want group stuff (she has 3 kids homeschooling).

If you have a long wall you could put a strip of contact paper through the middle (like a border) and use it as a timeline, then paint differnt colors above and below.

I don't think it necessarily needs to match your kitchen but would look nice if you decided to. Your kitchen colors sound like what I have on the outside of my house and those would be nice colors for a school room (maybe use a bigger percentage of the same yellow and less of the green).

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
