Home Sweet Simple Home

I have not dropped out of the Land of Blog completely . . . .
Just a bit.
As I stated before- we've been pretty busy with the clean up at my parents after the storm that came through last Thursday. Well on Friday- my father was hurt while cutting a branch on the fallen oak. He was whomped in the face. Mr. Steady, my brother and my mother talked him into going to the emergency room after his nose wouldn't stop bleeding over 90 minutes later. [I was at home getting ready to attend a funeral home visitation]. Well, four+ hours after arriving at the ER, my dad was released with two fractured facial bones, a lot of bruises and a prescription for pain killers. It is a blessing he turned his head when he did or the large branch would have hit him at the base of his neck and we are aware it could have been much worse. God is good.
While dad was at the ER, I stopped at their house to pick up Mr. Steady and Mr. Conductor-- where I subsequently got nailed in the eyelid by a hornet. It was quite painful and my eye swelled shut. I looked lovely. We continued with our plans for the evening inspite of it all . . . . with an ice pack and a bit of medication I was fine (okay, I didn't look fine but I felt better).
My father is doing fine. He had an appointment today with a plastic surgeon to make sure the bones are healing properly. Tomorrow he goes to his dentist to make sure he didn't knock any teeth loose etc. Thursday, we are all leaving for a much anticipated family vacation.
It's been an interesting few days here to say the least.
We believe the station at my parents is probably a total loss. We were able to shore it up a bit in order to get in there last night and empty it of all its contents (for the most part). My parents remain good natured about it all and we are talking about the possibility of salvaging some of it- such as the tongue and groove plank flooring, authentic beadboard, and wood siding as well as the wooden shutters.
Friends, family and neighbors have continued to come over and help with the clean up. The tree should be all cleaned up this evening by a crew of guys from the John Deere Dealership my father works at. We will make the next set of plans (tearing down the building probably) after we come back home.
God has continued to shower his love and attention on our family throughout it all. We are so very blessed.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
