WFMW: Using Up Bananas

8:27 AM, 2007-Jun-27 .. Posted in Works for Me .. 6 comments .. Link
It's that lovely day of the week . . . . . Works for Me Wednesday!
My tip today is for using up bananas.

Bananas going brown? In the summer our bananas go brown faster than we can eat them and I’m also less apt to make banana bread because of the heat – so what to do with bananas that are beginning to turn??? We peel them and freeze them for later- partially thaw the banana (not too much) and throw it in the blender with some ice cream, chocolate syrup and a slosh of milk ---- Choco-banana milk shakes!! Yum!
And that my dear readers, is simply what works for me today!

You can also use the peel from the banana to rub on poison ivy. It will help to dry it up and stop the itch! Really.. this is no joke!

I freeze my bananas, too. I don't even peel them!
I'm so glad I came over here because I will have to remember to use them for poison ivy, I have one kid who is very susceptible to it, and gets it BAD, and OFTEN, and frequently around eyes, which requires steroids.

Yummy! I've done similar with a bit of peanut butter, but honestly the chocolate sounds so much better. :) My sons also love it if i add some of the brown banana to pancake batter and make them banana pancakes. its a hit around here.

What a great idea! Too bad I just threw out those three bananas this morning. That milkshake would have been yummy! Thanks for the idea!

I never thought of peeling them first - I just chuck them in the freezer whole, and when they thaw the peel is DISGUSTING! If they're already peeled, I could basically not even touch it. Nice idea!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
