What I learnedThis morning while reading my devotions and praying I thought more about that quote from yesterday. So much of what we learn of love we learn at home. My mind was no longer on my children and their need to learn but on me. I thought of what I have learned of love in this home. I thought of my husband and what life with him has taught me about love and I thought of my children and all that they have taught me about love. In 13 years of marriage, I have learned the different ways love grows and the nuturing it needs. I have learned that love is more a choice than an emotion. I choose each day to love my husband and my children. I make the effort- I have learned love isn't easy but can sometimes be quite difficult. You must put forth the effort to show and give love- daily, moment by moment- and most especially when you do not feel like it. I have learned that each person in this home has a different love language and daily try to take the time to speak each person's love language to them. It is truly amazing how much better our days are when we all take the time to do this. I have learned there is an increase in the value of the love Mr. Steady and I share. I do not love him in the same way I did the day we married and I know that 30+ years from now I will love him differently than I do today. This is good; this is how it should be. I do indeed love him more than I did 13 years ago, it's not that hyper, new, passionate love of newlyweds but a beautiful contented love that comes from sacrifice, giving and care. As for my children, I have learned more about God's parental love for us in 10 years than I ever could fathom before. It wasn't until I held my newborn daughter in my arms that I truly could begin to understand how much my parents love me. I continue to be in awe of this love. I have a better understanding of God as my Abba Father now and continue to learn about that love daily. As I learn of love here in this home, I also learn a deeper gratitude for all that God has blessed me with. To me, love and thankfulness go hand in hand. Yesterday evening, as I watched Mr. Conductor ever so carefully bring me a cup of water as I lay in my bed, place it on my bedside table and then reach over, smile that big dimply smile and gently kiss my hand, I had to say out loud, "Thank you Lord for my son. Thank you for my children." As he walked away, I was simply full of love and gratitude for all that God gives. And then I was giddy with the simple thought that God loves me like I love Mr. Conductor and Sassafras and Maiden. In fact, He loves me even more than that. And so, yesterday, I learned a bit more.
