WFMW: Herbed Flour

My brain is like the weather here today- out of whack. So my tip is very simple today: Herbed Flour.
I like to punch up simple recipes by using flour enhanced with herbs. When meats call for a coating of (or to be dipped in) flour or a white sauce could be enhanced with herbs- I use my herbed flour. [Also very good to use in making biscuits and rolls.]
Here’s my basic herb recipe (using dried herbs):
1 tsp. chives
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. parsley
1 tsp. basil
1 tsp. thyme
Mix together and add to 2 cups of flour. Store in air tight container.
You can tweak this recipe as needed- you may want it punched up a bit or toned down a bit (by changing the ratio of herbs to flour). I also like to make variations- a good combo for coating chicken and fish- chives, lemon basil, lemon thyme and rosemary.
Another FYI: You can make a basting brush (great for grilling) from fresh herbs- bundle together thyme, oregano and rosemary with string. Yum!

Sounds GREAT! I do much the same thing - only I have a favorite herb mix that I mix up to sprinkle in/on foods (GREAT on boneless/skinless chicken breasts w/a little Spike seasoning), so when I make herb bread I very generously "spill" some of my mix on the dough.

I love this idea! I recently made Italian bread with rosemary inside and outside and it was soooo good! But I like the sounds of this herbal combination even better! Thanks for sharing!
