Tuesday School

7:46 PM, 2007-Apr-10 .. Posted in Homeschooling .. 1 comments .. Link
We school at home 4 days a week and Tuesdays are our day with our homeschool group. Over half the moms in our group also belong to our local MOPS group, which also happens to meet in the same location as our homeschool group. So every 2nd Tuesday of the month is MOPS in the morning and homeschool group in the afternoon (otherwise our homeschool group meets for the whole day 9:30 am to 2:30 pm) One mom that is not in MOPS (she “graduated”) does a short class with the older kids while we enjoy our monthly MOPS meeting. Usually this is an art/drawing class and is a big hit with the kids.
So join me today for another exciting glimpse into our week of homeschooling . . . .
7:30 am- Mama up, dressed and having devotions with a large cup of coffee
8:05 am- kiddos begin to stir
8:15-8:40 am- kids get up, get dressed and eat breakfast. Mama checks email, sends out weekly e-newsletter to youth group and finished packing necessities for our day (gifts for MOPS- I’m hospitality leader, lunches, and homeschool papers as well as a couple of stories and a short video- for when the kids finish lunch before the moms have even begun to eat!)
8:45 am- breakfast cleaned up and dishes washed. Teeth brushed, hair combed and shoes on. Last minute search for their special items that they want to haul to homeschool group.
9:10 am- We are now on our way to MOPS/homeschool group. I wanted to get out the door sooner but it just didn’t happen. There’s quite bit of fog and we are stuck behind a car going 40 mph. That’s okay- we put in a worship CD and sing at the top of our lungs. Which is good since it just hits me that we forgot to do the kids devotions this morning!
9:30 am to 11:30ish am- MOPS for Mama, Moppets for Mr. Conductor and art/drawing class for Maiden and Sassafras
11:40ish am- the kids help with the tear down and clean up from MOPS
Noon: Lunch- I bring Mr. Conductor back to the table twice and tell him he’s not allowed to get up unless he asks- he finally stays put and finishes his lunch. (He’s easily distracted by all the other kids and their food!)
12:30 pm- put in video for kids, moms sit down to eat
1:15 pm- Start homeschool group with prayer requests and prayer.
1:30 pm- We run through half of our spring musical, then have 3 of the kids share their Young Authors books, finish the 2nd half of the musical and do some wiggle stretches and such- then finish up with 3 more Young Authors books and the grand finale song for the musical. During this time I am in charge of leading the Young Authors portion and split my time between this and tearing off after Mr. Conductor who decided to show me that yesterday’s behavior was indeed a fluke and generally runs amuck. I feel my stress level begin to rise and am getting that nagging pinch in my shoulders (sure sign I’m stressing).
3 pm- Homeschool group is done and we help with the final clean up. Mr. Conductor melts down when I tell him we are leaving and he won’t be going outside to the playground. He decides to shed crocodile tears and wail at the top of his lungs. When I am unfazed- he wails louder. He receives a swat and is taken right out to the car. The girls help me load up the car and get in- all without being asked 22 times to do so. I stop quick and talk to another homeschool mom about their family coming over for dinner and a movie this weekend and then lulled by the sound of Mr. Conductor’s screams- I wave my good-byes. The girls try to calm Mr. Conductor and I try to calm myself as we head home.
3:20 pm- We arrive home. Mr. Steady is waiting at the screen door and upon seeing my seething face utters the prophetic words “Uh, Oh.” The girls unload the car while I put away the lunch leftovers. Mr. Steady takes Mr. Conductor and gives him a bit of a talking to and lays him down for his [late] nap. Mr. Steady advises me to go on up and take a short nap- he gives me a welcome home smooch and a quick rub at the stress spots on my shoulders. I ask him if we are in [home] for the nite and he says yes. I say that perhaps I should just change into my pjs and he seconds that motion.
3:35 pm- I am changing my clothes when the girls break out into a bit of a ruckus over Sassafras’s new Adventures in Odyssey CDs. We have a talk (me thru clenched teeth) and Maiden trots off downstairs with a reader, Sass puts in a CD and I curl up under my fluffy covers and bury my head.
I’d say that ended our school day but the learning never ends here- even for me! I had a wonderful, revitalizing 30 minute nap and read a bit after, Maiden read like a fiend, Sass sang, read and listened to her CD and the boys got in nice loooooong naps. Thankfully, Mr. C woke up much better than he had went down and he helped Mr. Steady and I make supper while the girls finished folding and putting away that 2nd load of laundry I never got out of the dryer yesterday. (!) Supper dishes were cleaned up in no time and Maiden even got my coffee maker ready for tomorrow while Sass got everyone’s clothes laid out.
I realized while Mr. Steady and I were working on dinner and chatting that the girls had behaved very well today and I didn’t even pay attention- I was too absorbed and upset by Mr. Conductor’s bad behavior. Shame on me. I vow to pay better attention tomorrow. We shall see . . . .

my day

Your day sounds so very busy. I used to attend MOPS but the one around here has nothing for homeschoolers, so nothing for my olders to do while MOPS is going on :( Anyway, I posted my day at my blog, just wanted to let you know. PS - glad your nap helped (and Mr C's too)

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
