Sweet Smelling Laundry

When it's winter I don't hang my sheets on the line (and sometimes when it's summer and I'm running behind I don't do it either). But there is one thing I enjoy about putting my sheets in the dryer and  that's my lavender dryer bag. It's simple really- just a little cotten drawstring bag filled with dried lavender. I toss it in with a load of sheets or towels and they come out smelling sooooo wonderful. I love the smell of lavender- it is just so relaxing, so it's the perfect sweet smell for sweet dreamin' sheets.

I think you could probably find those nifty little drawstring cotton bags @ Hobby Lobby or other craft stores or you could just make your own little bags. Make sure it's a loose weave though. The lavender does eventually lose it's effectiveness and you'll have to dump and refill your bag when you notice the smell isn't quite as strong but I do get quite a few loads out of each bag. Oh, another hint: store your bag in an airtight container to keep it "fresh" and to keep everything else from smelling like it (unless you want everything to smell that way!)

Does anyone have a recipe for a lavender wash for the washing machine. They sell a lavendar "detergent" thru Restoration Hardware but the $price$ is prohibitive and I'd really rather learn to make my own.

Could you just put lavendar essential oil in your water? Or mix it with your soap? I use liquid - you could put it in your jug. Powdered, I'm not to sure, but a few drops in the water should work. Good luck - I'm going to try the dyer bags - I LOVE lavendar!
