What's working here today

I love burning candles and I love to reuse the jars and such that my candles come in. I use to find it hard to clean the wax out to reuse them but have hit upon two wonderful solutions.

First- freezing. I always knew you should store new candles in your freezer to prolong their burning but I didn’t know that I could freeze left over candles and just “pop out” the wax until the lady at Yankee candle recommended it to me. And it works slicker than slick! I especially love this trick for popping out spent melted tarts from my tart burner. Note to self: wait until the tart burner has warmed back up to room temperature before putting in a new tart and lighting the tea light- cold ceramic will crack and even explode. Ahem.

My second trick is hot water. If I’ve got a residue of wax in a glass candle holder I fill it with water and microwave it for a minute or less to loosen up the wax- in fact the wax ends up floating in the warm water. I just rinse with warm water and wipe it clean.

Voila!

And that, dear readers, is what works for me today. Hot foot it on over to Shannon’s bloggy home to find out what’s working for others in blogdom today.

Great tips! Sounds so much easier than the scraping, scrubbing and crossed eyes I usually have trying to clean out those jars!

Great idea on the candle wax removal. I had heard of some of those ideas, but not all of them.
Thanks also for stopping by my blog today.

I always freeze my candles, especially my tart burner, but had not heard of putting them in the microwave. There seems to always be on little bit I cannot remove from a holder and that great tip will come in handy.
I had not heard freezing candles would make them last longer either. I guess I need to get a container and put mine in the freezer.
Thanks again for the great tips!

That first sentence should read \"candleholders\". Oops!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
