Puttering

I am a putterer. I love to putter. I’ll go into the kitchen for a drink of water and pick up 2 things to put away while I walk thru the living room. I’ll remember to switch the wash to the dryer when I get in the kitchen, come back remembering I wanted a drink and then end up wiping down the fridge and dumping out a couple containers of unidentifiable food items before I have my first sip.
There’s just something about setting my house to rights that refreshes me.
I think I’m odd.
My SIL chuckles at me because I categorize all the kiddos’ toys when putting them away in their proper little bins. All toy trains in one bin, plastic food stuff in another, musical type toys in another and so on. I have always been this way. [By the way we rarely lose a toy and I usually, 90% of the time, know where everything is.] However, I’ve been known to stuff a thing or two under my couch because I don’t know what to do with it or where to put it.
I like to use my headset phone when having longer than 5 minute conversations and use that time to tidy my desk or just putter anywhere as I walk around the house gabbing. The funny thing is- my house is neat but my desk is one big ol’ stack of papers and mish mash.
If I have to run upstairs I like to take a couple things up with me to put away and bring down anything that may need to come back down- makes me feel ultra productive. I always figure it doesn’t take much more than a few seconds to pick up a couple things and put away and tidy up as I go thru a room.
So far neither my children nor my husband have adopted this habit from me. Rats.
I even putter when I’m teaching the girls school. Now, that is one area where Sassafras is nice and neat. She likes to put away each assignment after she’s done. I think she likes the visual it gives her of nearing completion for the day.
The only time puttering truly gets me in trouble is when I start cleaning up after Mr. Steady when he’s not quite finished with a project. I don’t know how many times I’ve put a tool away only to have him ask where it went a bit later! Sometimes I’ve been known to do this 2 or 3 times or more in the midst of one project. He tends to get a bit exasperated with me when that happens.

Ohhhhhhhhhh that so sounds like me!LOL And neither of my boys are full fledged putters, but Mat is showing some signs on occasion!LOL I stack things by the basement door and just take them when I make a trip down, set things on teh step to bring them up here, etc. It just makes more sense to me and seems to be very efficient. Altho I have learned to just stay out of DH's way when he's working on a project!LOL

I wish I were a putterer, too... So far I'm not but I'm trying to make a habit of it : ) The telephone head phone set sounds good, you're be able to talk, put things away and get a bit of exercise at the same time : )

I too am a putterer!! I also categorize the little one's toys. I don't like not knowing where something is, should they not be able to find it themselves. I also catergorize my linens by color/pattern! It frustrates dh when he puts them away and I go back and rearrange them! @@
I think everyone has cabin fever. My kids are driving me loopy today as well, especially the 2 y/o. She's constantly getting into something! I hope she naps today, I sure could use the break!! Hope your day gets better!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
