Old and New
Old and new.Today I'm burning Pine Needle in my potpourri pot and two Clean Cotton candles in old pint mason jars. Oh, I just love the scent it is giving off. Saying good-bye to Christmas and Advent and bringing in the clear crispness of the new year. It is a quite pleasing combo.
One of the downers of putting away the Christmas decorations is that the house seems so bare. It's been bright and decorated to the hilt for 5 weeks and before that it was all decked out for fall and now- it seems blah. I don't enjoy the chore of putting away the Christmas decore- its always more fun to put out than put away. But I don't like it all sitting around after the holidays either. So it's a tug on my heart both ways.
But today isn't the day. Tomorrow I will start taking it all down. Now I know most people take it down right after Christmas but we like to leave it up until New Years. It fits for us.
It will probably take me a couple of days to get it all down as Mr. Steady has asked that I don't stress myself out over it all. One day for the tree and all its ornaments and such and one day for everything else. I'll wash the Christmas linens tomorrow and pack them away with everything else on day 2. This is a system that works for us.
Then I will look around at the house for a couple of days seeing the bare spots . . . . . but after that it will become normal to me again and I will once again revel in my less is more look.
I'm toying with a bit of redecorating. I'm thinking of challenging myself to a bit of recycle-decorating. Taking what I have and using it in different ways. If I add something new- it will have to be thrifty and/or used. This appeals to me right now.
It's time for some fun and frugal freshing up!

My Husband (DH)-Mr. Steady
My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.
DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.
DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.
DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
