We had a wonderful lazy day yesterday. We were given many board games and such for Christmas and played a few of them yesterday- such as Pirates edition of Life, Bunco, Dutch Blitz as well as Maiden's all time favorite Mancala. We also received Apples to Apples but didn't get a chance to play it. Sassafras started her volcano- building the plaster volcano yesterday. Maiden planted her Biblical garden yesterday as well. We didn't get to the potter's wheel that Sass got from a Wagner cousin or Mr. Conductor's triops growing kit but no problem- we have next weekend. We watched Mr. Conductor's new train DVD and his Veggie Tales, Gideon Tuba Warrior. So for being a lazy day it was quite busy. As promised, I did no knitting. I played the games and watched Veggie Tales and read part of my new book. I also managed to get one load of laundry done and most of the order restored in my home. And then- at 9 pm things went wrong. I just wanted to hurry and wash the last few dishes in the sink before we finished putting the kids to bed and Mr. Steady and I put in a movie. Mr. Steady was taking out the last of the trash and the kiddos were all brushing their teeth for bed. I have a large enamelware jug for pouring beverages and it was tipped upside down in the righthand side of my kitchen sinks. I had put a large sharp knife in the sink also but thought that it was underneith the jug. As I was lifting the jug to add another clean dish to the rack underneith- it began to slip. I had visions of the spout on my lovely and quite handy jug busting off as it hit the floor so I reached out to grab it. I did not know that the knife was not really under the jug but resting on the lip of the jug- as the jug fell it brought the knife along with it. I felt something hit my fingers as I caught the jug but my first thought was that another dish had come with it and banged into my hand. Then I looked to the floor and saw the knife. I looked at my hand and saw the blood. I quickly turned the faucet on full blast cold and stuck my hand under it. I looked at the cut and realized it was deeper than I would like. As I began to get woozy at the thought of it all and the pain began to register- Mr. Steady walked in the door. Thank the Lord! He took over- grabbing the first aid supplies and keeping my hand under the cold water. By now it's about 9:30 pm. The last thing I wanted to do was go to Urgent Care and wait about 2 hours to get looked at. I told him I didn't care about a scar just to patch me up. Maiden came downstairs and became Dr. Steady's nurse. He found another more superficial cut on my pinkie and the large deep cut on my ring finger he decided wasn't as deep as he first feared. By about 9:50 pm I was washed and medicated (2 ibuprofen and some antibiotic cream) and bandaged and tucked under a couple of blankets on the couch. Mr. Steady put the kiddos to bed and announced he was getting a bite to eat as he felt a bit sick to his stomach from the ordeal. He also got me a slice of apple pie. Wonderful man. Oh and let me not forget to mention that he helped me get into my jammies and up to bed and all that. You'd think my whole body was hurt the way he fussed. I am doing alright today. The pain reliever helps keep it to a dull throb and Maiden is going out of her way to be helpful. We need to go to the bank and library and she was concerned about whether I could drive or not. I chuckled and told her I was sure I could manage. Good thing we're not having school today. I think I'll need a nap later. I continue to thank the Lord that it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. The cut is my left hand and I am left-handed. God is good- ALL THE TIME.
My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady
My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.
DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.
DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.
DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
