Home Sweet Simple Home

Out of the frying pan and sittin' in the Pressure Cooker

We are in need of a break. Mama and the kids (and probably Mr. Steady too). I can tell that we need to take some time off of school. It is taking the girls longer and longer to get up, get dressed and eat their breakfast in the morning and there is a lot more daydreaming than work going on. Taking a day off here and there isn’t enough- they are in need of a week’s break and so is the mama.  I am one tired mama. Now granted, for me, the extra pressure of the last few days is more to blame. I am tired- bone tired. And I know it is from the stress and pressure of my family (both my own and the church family)- nothing like emotional issues to wear you out faster than running a 10K.

So I have simplified school down to the bare minimum and the fun stuff for the rest of the week. We plan on taking all of next week off and perhaps a bit of the following week. We will dig out the board games and card games and a new family puzzle. We’ll sleep in and we’ll recuperate.
The week between Christmas and New Years is a light one for me as youth pastor- which I am undoubtedly thankful for after the last few hectic pressure soaked weeks (really it’s been more like a hectic 2 months).

I am reminded of how I felt towards the end of a semester in college- the intense pressure and overwhelming relief followed by a couple of days of doing nothing in order to recuperate. I am thinking that is needed for a homeschooling family too.
Mr. Steady has the day off the day after Christmas and so we’ll be putting together and trying out our new stuff (the kids got incredible science kits from honorary grandparents) and reveling in just being together. I promised Mr. Steady I won’t do a single knitting project next week. At all! LOL
