No Ideal Christmas

There is no ideal Christmas; only the one Christmas
you decide to make as a reflection of your values, desires, affections, traditions.
-Bill McKibben

Just found this quote and wanted to remember it!
This year, while it is definitely not our ideal Christmas-- we are focusing more on our values, what we desire to learn and experience, sharing our affection thru our homemade gift giving and of course, bringing out our traditions and adding new ones.
One new tradition that Mr. Steady and I are thinking of adding is giving gifts to Jesus. Our children are learning and growing so much through our Christmas unit study and we are all enjoying a much more relaxed and more focused on CHRIST holiday. So we are thinking we will each give a gift to Jesus. Something we want to give up or something we want to learn or do better at. For example: I plan on giving Jesus my temper and anger( gifts I truly need to let him have!!) These gifts will be written down on pretty paper by each person and placed in a special box to be opened and read (either on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve- we haven't yet decided). We will then place the gifts back in the box and store it. We plan on bringing it back out at the beginning of next Christmas season and re-reading, re-evaluting.

What a great tradition to start! A wonderful way to remember the real reason for CHRISTmas. I could also give Him my temper & anger & stress & many more. I'm glad I happened upon your site. Have a great Christmas!!!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
