Homemade Advent Wreath

I haven’t shared the saga of the plain wreath. Let me start at at a bit of a beginning. This year we planned to use an Advent wreath. We saw a beautiful silver Advent Wreath at Christian Book Distributors but could not justify spending the $$ on it this year.
So I decided we’d make our wreath with evergreen boughs and holly (which, of course, represents everlasting life and the blood Jesus shed for us) beautifully arranged using florist foam etc. I was imagining this grand and wonderful smelling wreath-- I am always great with ideas and often lousy with follow-thru. Time got away from me and the little Mom and Pop place that I purchase greens and holly from every year closed their doors. So I decided to just purchase a plain fake evergreen wreath and make a simple Advent wreath like I saw at Advent for Evangelicals wonderful little blog.
And there in is the saga. I went to Hobby Lobby, Wal-mart, Meijer, Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Big Lots— no plain wreathes. I got a bit excited at Meijer when I found what I thought was a plain wreath until I saw the price tag- $24.99! It was a battery-operated lighted plain wreath. I put it back. I just couldn’t believe that I just could NOT find a plain ol’ wreath. I looked at purchasing a live wreath but they were also $$ and bigger than I wanted.
And so necessity being the mother of invention- I got an idea, an amazing idea. It came to me yesterday as I was making my St. Nicholas Day centerpiece. Yesterday evening when St. Nick’s day was all done- I got out a cheap green see-thru plastic circlular tray and sat my 4 candlesticks in it- then I took the evergreens I had used for the centerpiece and arranged them around the candlesticks. I tucked in some fake red berry bundles I picked up at Hobby Lobby for 25 cent each. Voila- Advent Wreath for $1.25 (just the price of holly bundles- I had the rest)!

Isn’t it just grand! Oh, I was just so proud of my inventive little self last night!
I plan on misting the greens daily in the hopes of keeping them fresh- otherwise I’ll just go back out and cut some more off my front bushes.
Oh and we'll be adding the Christ Candle later- Mr. Steady is doing something real special for that! I'll share soon.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
