Those that teach

Okay- you may think this just pertains to public school teacher but for  those that homeschool- I'm sure you feel the same way- changing the question in the beginning of the story to "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided their best option in life was to be a sahm/homeschooling mom?"

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued: "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?" He reminded the other dinner guests that it's true what they say about teachers: "Those who can: do. Those who can't: teach."
To corroborate, he said to another guest: "You're a teacher, Susan," he said. "Be honest. What do you make?"
Susan, who had a reputation of honesty and frankness, replied, "You want to know what I make? I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I can make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor and an A- feel like a slap in the face if the student did not do his or her very best.
"I can make kids sit through 40 minutes of study hall in absolute silence. I can make parents tremble in fear when I call home. You want to know what else I make?"
"I make kids wonder. I make them question. I make them criticize. I make them apologize and mean it. I make them write. I make them read, read, read. I make them spell 'definitely' and 'beautiful' over and over again, until they will never misspell either one of those words again. I make them show all their work in math and hide it all on their final drafts in English. I elevate them to experience music and art and joy in the performance, so their lives are rich, full of kindness and culture, and they take pride in themselves and their accomplishments. I make them understand that if you have the brains, then follow your heart...and if someone ever tries to judge you by what you make, you pay them no attention."
"You want to know what I make? I make a difference. And what do you make?"
Now don't you think you make a difference? I do. Don't let others judge you by what "you make"! We won't see the full value of what we are doing this side of heaven.

There are those business men out there that need a "good" lesson every now and then.
When I turned in my two week notice over 9 years ago, to come home and be a wife and mother, my boss waited till the last day, called me into his office and asked me how much would it take to get me to stay? I replied, nothing this time, I was going home to my family. 3 years later, I saw him again and the first thing he asked me was"So where are you working & how much are you making?" It was always about the money with him, never about your family.
I nevered look back after that last day of work. I am where God wants me to be and that is all of the pay I need,
Thank you for sharing this story with us.

Teaching

I think we are all teaching all the time, by example, word or deed. I don't feel called to 'teach or preach' formally, but I think living the best way I know how is the way I can teach others.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
