I wasn't very vigilant in taking my Supermom vitamins each and every day last week and am now battling a head cold. It has been such a very long time since I have had one of these-- that I was quite unprepared for how plugged up and dopey I am feeling. First, I can't hear well, 2nd- I talk a bit funny. My head feels all heavy- like it's stuffed with lead lined cotton balls. The children have been pretty good about it. We did a bit of grocery and holiday shopping and a bit of school. I forgot a few things at the store and also forgot my 2nd errand as well as taking the videos back to the library (I am now facing a $1 per video overdue fine). In other news: We made lavendar bath salts today for gift giving. We were able to get 8 lovely containers from this- our first batch. Smells divine! (The one thing I could smell today!) Maiden made rainbow snowflakes to give to her homeschooling friends. Sassafras is going to finish making her gingerbread men cookies. Mr. Conductor is enjoying the 'Ba-middle Sno' Beast" on our Rudolph video and Mr. Steady has snuck upstairs to watch a bit of National Treasure. And I am playing catch-up here. The bread is baking in the oven and I've got a winter wonderland potpourri in my tart burner. It's hardy Chicken and Noodles with fresh bread, peas & corn and crisp pickle spears for supper. Mr. Conductor's homemade Smore's clusters for dessert. Yum. I'm sipping Eggnog Chia Latte as I type and feeling quite toasty. We are all looking forward to Day 2 of our Jotham's Journey Advent book tonight. So it's right into cozy PJs after supper clean-up. Tomorrow is our Christmas party with our homeschool group. I have a few finishing touches to do on a couple of gifts. Simple and quickly done when I get to it. I am looking forward to getting to my latest knitting project later on- a belt for Maiden. Her 10th birthday is next Wednesday. I was able to scoot away for a few hours on Saturday to make a few purchases at Hobby Lobby and got oodles of wonderful yarn on sale (as well as items for many various projects/presents). Yesterday evening my dear SIL helped me to knit my first bracelet. I hope to post a picture- it is just so cool! You use jewelry wire and beads and a pair of knitting needles! I am planning a bracelet and necklace for my 25 yr old neice nad perhaps a bracelet for my 10 yr old neice as well (2 names in our Christmas exchange). So much going on here- so much fun!
aweee I have the crud too! Recon you caught it from me via the internet?
so sorry you are sick!
praying for you & yours
Something fun

Amy, I hope you feel better! I came across something this weekend I think you might enjoy. I heard about an "urban homestead" on 1/5 an acre squeezed between 2 freeways in Pasadena, CA. Go to www.pathtofreedom.com/about/media.shtml#treehugger. This will take you to a page of media about the Dervaes family who has this amazing homestead that produces 6000 pounds of food a year in the middle of the city. They also use solar, have chickens, goats, ducks, and are vegetarians. They claim they grow 75% of the food they eat (for a family of 4) on this 1/5 acre plot. Of course, they seem to be master gardeners, but it is very inspirational to see the media coverage and browse their website.
I live on 1/2 acre, which is actually large for where I live. This path to freedom website shows you don't need a lot of land to be somewhat self-sufficient. The Devaes are doing this because they are environmentalists, and they are quite amazing at what all they have accomplished. I hope you enjoy it.
My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady
My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.
DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.
DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.
DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
