Propping open windows

I mentioned that my girls were working hard to sand window props as presents for their Nana. Here are Maiden (already in jammies) and Sassafras sanding away on the kitchen floor.

Don't you just love how Sassafras is holding it steady with her feet! On the register you can get a better view of the props (there are 3 leaning against the wall). They are straight on one side and have graduated "steps" on the other side. The steps will allow for the window to be propped open at different levels. Our next step is to paint the props white. Which we plan to do tomorrow.
If you have an older home then you know these props can be quite useful. If you have a new home with windows that stay open when you push them up- well,  then you just don't need one of these wonderful little devices!
Oh and I should mention how tickled my girls were to see something quite similiar to our props being used in a window at the Edison Homestead at Greenfield Village. They were so excited to see them and then when the guide asked if we knew what they were- well he didn't stump my girls!
Nana specifically asked for props as a Christmas present- though I doubt she remembers as she asked so long ago. The kids are all excited about really surprising her.
