Home Sweet Simple Home

Snowflakes- You make

Wanted to share the latest Christmas project.
We made coffee filter snowflakes. I just love doing this- much better than the square paper ones I made in school back in the day.
Thought I'd share a bit of the process with you.
First off- coffee filters are way cheap. We got a package of 200 for $1 just for the kids to play with here at home.
First fold the filter half about 3-4 times. Like so:

Next- grab your scissors- regular and fun kinds like the ones used in scrapbooking. We also use a hole puncher. I just used straight scissors and a hole puncher on this one. Cut triangles and fringe on ends, a snip at the point, triangles- I love to cut half a heart shape on the fold in order to get wonderful hearts sprinkled thru out my snowflake.
Here you see I have snipped into the layers. On the right side is the heart I cut out. This is so simple and fun!

And here is the finished product!

Isn't it gorgeous?! The kids love doing these with me (Mr. Conductor usually snips his to smithereens though!). One other fun way to do this project is to tie dye the filters first. We use eye droppers and water colors to create our own tie dye effect then let them dry before cutting out the most beautiful rainbow snowflakes.
The girls are planning on hanging theirs in their room on their windows and walls. The ones I made went up on the kitchen windows and Mr. Conductor got to use his favorite little broom to sweep up the miniscule confetti he created.
We'll make some more and share them with family and friends- tucked in cards and pasted onto presents.
I've also got some jumbo coffee filters hidden around here somewhere- I want to dig them out as I can just see the kids eyes pop out!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
