Home Sweet Simple Home

Storm still Coming

I am not a patient person. Not even for a snow storm. I was looking forward to "being snowed in"! So far we've had a lot of rain, some sleet and a bit of snow (which hasn't "stuck"). The temp is hovering around 29-30 degrees.
It seems we are nestled in a little protected pocket. So far it's hit hard to the west and northwest of us. Schools were closed all over Berrien, Cass, Kent and Kalamazoo Counties. My orginal agenda for the day was to go to Hobby Lobby in northern Kalamazoo for needed crafting supplies but Mr. Steady asked me to stay home after seeing the weather report last nite. Upon waking to only rain this morning- I contemplated going . . . . then decided to check the school closings in the area (as our public schools right here were open for the day) and found that everything to the west and north of us was closed and it seems Kalamazoo got a lot of ice. Mr. Steady and I talked and thought that even though I could be the most cautious careful driver I could run the risk of meeting up with some one who was not. So home we stayed.
My plans foiled, we went about our school day . . . . and Mama got antsy with anticipation. So we trekked to the Library and checked out a scad of Christmas books and a couple of movies (because having over 2 dozen books of our own on Christmas just isn't enough! And almost a dozen Xmas movies of our very own obviously isn't enough either!). Came home, had a wonderful lunch with our snowman dish set and pulled out one box of Christmas decorations to put up (our goal is to put up one box per day until they are all up).
Guess the girls are high on anticipation too because right after lunch they stated they were going up to have their quiet time . . . . . loaded down with about 50 or so Christmas books- a piece.
The only bummer is that we were planning on going to a local Christmas Parade this evening and we probably won't- Dowagiac schools are closed today and they were hit hard by the ice storm. Plus it's suppose to dip down to 21 degrees tonite and the area is under a winter storm warning til 6 pm. Can't say as I want to stand on a cold hard cement sidewalk for a parade when it's that cold!
So I'm planning on corn chowder and homemade bread to warm us up this evening. We've got plenty of books and movies and cocoa too!
I've got all the ingredients to make my famous fudge and some Smores Clusters and for Maiden to make chocolate chip muffins.
Perhaps the snow will still come early enough that we can go out trekking in it a bit.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
