Works for Me- Advent

Works for Me Wednesday (check out other great tips at Shannon's place-- Rocks in My Dryer- some special Christmas tips this week!)
Advent and the Nativity.
Last year my Mama gave me the coolest Advent cabinet with numbered doors. My plan this year is to place one piece of the nativity in each slot. We have a wonderful Fisher Price Nativity Set for our children (as I believe they need their own nativity to touch and play with and act out the story with).

When the pieces are done (13 pieces)- I’ll add other little gifts such as little sweets, small jewelry, special family coupons etc. My goal is for the gifts to be handmade or purchased very, very cheaply.
I will also be placing a corresponding scripture in each slot. For example: The figure of Joseph will be Day 1 with Luke 2:20-21. On Day 14 there will be little homemade heart bracelets along with Luke 2:19 (But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.) One more example: Day 22 is a coupon for making edible bird feeders (bread, peanut butter and birdseed) with the verses Luke 2:22-24.
And that's what works for me!

Love the idea -especially how the items match scripture. By the way for other readers, a similar advent cabinet is at Restoration Hardware. I saw it there yesterday and was just thinking about what would go in it!

I love this idea. I couldn't think of anything better to incorporate EVERYTHING that embodies Christmas to me: Jesus, family time, and the excitement of new things and old traditions.
