More Pearl Reading

I have so enjoyed reading Created To Be His Help Meet (I should be done by now but am prolonging those last 3 or so chapters) that Mr. Steady and I decided to make another purchase from No Greater Joy.
Mr. Steady has so enjoyed all that I am learning that he asked me to purchase Michael Pearl's Only Men CD. We then decided to go ahead and buy the book To Train Up A Child (afterall it was only $5). I have only started reading the book . . . . . and well, it's interesting. Seeings how I have an almost 10 yr old, 6.5 yr old and 2.5 yr old . . . . . well, I've had some time with the older two kids to do things "the wrong way" for many years.
I have only read the first few chapters but am finding the arguements for training to be good. Mostly I am finding the reminder that I cannot continue to lose my temper with my children. Chapter 3 Parental Anger really opened my eyes to the vicious cycle I have created at home. Listen to this question posed by Mr. Pearl, "Parent, have you trained yourself not to discipline immediately but to wait until your irritation builds into anger?" Gulp. He then states that "you have allowed anger to become your inducement to discipline-- a less than worthy motivation." Double gulp.
In failing to discipline my children properly at the first signs I have shown them that they do not really need to listen to me until I get steaming mad and start yelling. Well, by golly, that's gonna change!
I am thinking that first off, we're going to need to have a family meeting where we discuss the need for changes in everyone's behavior, parents included.
One terribly sad occurence here on our homestead is that Mr. Steady has become as impatient (and sometimes yelling) with the children as I often am. And I know that I am to blame for that because of how I have not only handled the children but how I have handled our family life (because of "difficulties" with the children). I miss the man who was as slow to anger as he was to speak and I pray for that to become the norm again. I know that the children (and us parents) will greatly benefit from that.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
