Home Sweet Simple Home

On Thanksgiving Day

For the first time that I can ever remember we will not be celebrating Thanksgiving with my family. My family is doing things a bit differently this year. Every other year my brother and his family are with his wife's side and this is that year. Then my Momma freaked us all out by announcing that not only was she not cooking on Thanksgiving Day but that she and Dad would be going out to dinner by themselves. WHAT?
After the initial shock wore off, Mr. Steady and I talked about what we should do. My sister had decided she would spend the day with her boyfriend and his family and we had already developed the tradition of The Day After Thanksgiving with his parents. [Mr. Steady is one of 9 children and the family has grown to 38 people. We adopted the toned down version of having his parents over for TG leftovers when we were first married and hosting my side's TG at our home. We have all fallen in love with the tradition and so keep it. That way he still gets his Mama's stuffing and other goodies and my children  get a bit more uninterrupted time with their grandparents.]
So what to do, what to do. We decided to ask friends of ours (who do not have any family even remotely close by and who are homeschoolers too) what they were doing for TG and if they would like to join us. Next thing we knew- our friends, The Hughes, were hosting TG at their home and we were bringing some side dishes instead of the whole meal. These dear friends are such blessings to us- the wife is my kindred spirit, the husband is another Mr. Steady and of the 5 children my girls are good friends with them all but have developed close knit friendships with 2 of their girls. As for Mr. Conductor- that boys gets along with everyone (and gets into everything!). So we are all eagerly anticipating our different and slightly untraditional Thanksgiving this year. God will bless, of that I am certain.
Funny- last nite I found out that my parents want to do Thanksgiving Part 2 (as my Mama called it) with brother and family and sister and boyfriend and us all on Saturday. I have never stretched out this holiday over so many days! Wow. Lots to be thankful for here! And here's hopin' I'm still likin' turkey by Sunday!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
