Homemade Baby wipes

5:03 PM, 2006-Feb-1 .. 3 comments .. Link

I am looking for recipe for homemade baby wipes. I lost the one given to me years ago . . . . And as  I strive to be more self-sufficent and frugal (and also noted that the price of my brand of wipes went up 30 cents . . . .) Anyway- the recipe I had was for a roll of heavy duty paper towels and a mixture of water and baby oil and maybe baby shampoo/soap??? I can't remember and I certainly don't remember the portions . . . .

Somebody help me, Please!

Here's one recipe I have saved.

*Note: I've never made these, so the "I" in the below is from the person who orig. posted the recipe on a board I got it from.

2Cups water
2TBLS baby shampoo or gentle body wash
2TBLS olive oil
2TBLS vinegar

I don't cut the paper towel roll. I just pull off enough sheets to pack in my container. I could not get the roll to unwind as I used it, so pull and stuff works better for me. The vinegar really helps when it comes to yeasty rashes.

Looks like you got a recipe already ;)

The book I'm reading "Dining on a Dime" has a recipe that is just a little different and she does cut the towels 1/2, which is something I remember from another book but can't seem to find at the moment.

Anyway, here is her recipe along with some tips she included at the bottom of the page. ~ HTH ~

1 1/2 cups boiling water*
2 tbsp baby bath or shampoo
1 tbsp baby oil
1 roll of paper towels
Mix liquids in a empty baby wipes container; cut towels and remove core; place towels in container and let them soak up the water solution. Turn a few times, add more solution if needed.
*keeps bacteria from growing.
Tips:
* An even less expensive baby wipe is to use wash cloths and wash with your cloth diapers.
* Use cornstarch instead of baby powder. It is now sold as "natural" baby powder in the stores. Put it in an old spice bottle for a shaker.

I've used cloth diapers and wipes for 6 years. I use a small squirt of baby soap and water. I use flannel wipes. But I have also used cheap baby washcloths. They clean much better than disposable wipes.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
