About that Prayer

About the prayer in my previous entry- I just felt the need to expand on that. (I usually feel a need to expand on something . . . . which often makes my hubby roll his eyes and sigh!)

I try to make sure I pray this prayer every day, as I find I need the reminder every day. I am very selfish person by nature but I know that more than anything- my husband deserves the best I can give. That’s GIVE- not take, or give what I know will help me get more in return- but the type of giving that is selfless, giving that looks only to serving his needs. So sometimes that means taking care of his dirty ice cream bowl he left in the living room, or the dirty socks under the chair, or washing his work clothes even though he said he’d do them himself to make things easier for me. It might mean making his favorite dinner or dessert or not complaining when he wants to share a drink with me and he ends of drinking 7/8 of it! I will always remember something a Titus 2 woman once said to me. We had been talking about the things our husbands do that annoy us and then she spoke of a lady we knew who had just recently lost her husband. “You know, I think Miriam would gladly pick up Ken’s dirty socks and put them in the hamper- just to have him back with her again. The pet peeves wouldn’t matter.” That was more than 8 years ago and it stays with me to this day. I know I would gladly welcome all those little pet peeves I have about my husband rather than not have him at all. Maybe we should include in our wedding vows not just “for better or worse, for richer or for poorer” but also “when my pet peeves make me want to strangle you- even when you put back the milk with only a dribble left in it; I will still love you and stay beside you. When you leave your dirty socks on the floor beside the hamper; I will still love you and live with you.”

But then he’d get to say “When you nag and yell instead of talk sweetly; I will still love and stay with you. When you get angry and don’t cook supper; I will still love you and I just might cook it instead. When you greet me at the door with anger and resentment; I will still love you and live with you.”

God sure knew what he was doing when he blessed me with my husband. My DH abounds in patience where I donÂ’t. I clean where he makes messes. He hugs me even when IÂ’m grumpy and I kiss him even when heÂ’s sweaty.

He is the perfect match for me and I donÂ’t want to take that for granted.

I am reading The Power of a Praying Woman and Wife books. I love what you just said about wedding vows, I think if we renew we should say the things we should have said 11 yrs ago. I also think if you are praying for someone it is hard to be angry at that person. Keep up the praying.
Blessings,
Andrea

This is so true, and something I need to remind myself of more often.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
