Works for Me

My first Works for Me Wednesday worked so well for me that I’m on the bandwagon again.

I pondered what really Works for Me and I have to say that my Weekly Menu Plan is one of the biggest time, sanity and money savers in my home. I write out a 2 week plan of menus- breakfast, lunch and dinner. First I look back to what we’ve had the previous couple of weeks and then I look in my fridge, pantry and freezer and make my menu plan. If I’m stumped for an idea- I pull out my past menu plans (all saved on my computer) for inspiration. I then make my grocery list based on the plan.
Also of note: when I make my menu plan I make a note next to each day what we have planned on our calendar because we all know that what’s going on in our lives dictates what supper is going to be. For example: I know that on Wednesday nites I teach a young woman’s Bible study and I need to be leaving the house by 6:40 pm- We normally eat at 6 pm but on Wednesdays we strive for 5:30 pm- so Wednesdays are usually my crockpot dinner days or very simple meals like soup and sandwiches.
If we have a Little League game or something and won’t be able to be home for supper I know to make a picnic-style supper for on the go.
In the past I have assigned a certain type of meal per nite such as Monday is soup nite, Tuesday- chicken, Wed.- crockpot, Thurs.- breakfast for supper, Friday- pizza nite etc. Then you have a list of all the meals you make for those categories and just pick and choose!
