Home Sweet Simple Home

Things on the homestead are rolling along. Mornings are spent doing school and a bit of housework [I tend to keep my hands busy doing this or that to spiff things up and maintain order as I teach the girls in whatever room we are in]. Afternoons after lunch are quiet reading time. Evenings are spent as a family either doing school projects together or out raking our overabundance of leaves (thankfully the walnuts are done- final count: 76 five-gal. buckets full. Wowzers!) or watching a family video.
We’ve conquered some of our fall projects- the gutters are clean and DH added a gutter covering to make his job easier in the future. The walnuts are done and gone! DH bought new furnace filters and has started his monthly replacement process. We continue to pick up sticks (after fall storms) and add them to our kindling pile. On our To Do list includes putting up clear plastic on our 100+ year old windows, doing some extra caulking and prepping the garden for winter [putting away all garden “art” and adding leaves/compost mixture in heaps over entire garden]. We also need to store our patio furniture (which will probably wait until next month as we are still having campfires occassionly).  I have at least one car load of boxes etc. on my porch that I need to deliver to the local free store. I am hoping to accomplish this on Saturday morning.
We also have the paint and new wainscoting to redo our kitchen but are wondering again when we will have the time? It seems this project may be put off again until spring.
I am thinking that some warm spiced apple cider and h'made pumpkin bread sounds good . . . . .

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
