Home Sweet Simple Home

Sharing our Trip with You

I wanted to share some of our Greenfield Village experience with you, my blogging friends. We had such a wonderful time and I am already wishing we were going back right now!
Here's my husband with our 2 yr old son on the Torch Lake Engine. This boy is such a train freak and was so happy I thought his face would split from the big grin plastered on it.

You can't tell in the photo but he's waving to me! The train roundhouse is the brick building in the background.
Here's my DD6- my sweet middle child, enjoying herself on the 97 year old carousel. All the horses' tails are made from real horse hair from horses kept on the working farms at the Village.

Our day was so jam-packed that we only got one ride on the carousel- but it was a good one! Nice and long! DD6 was entranced with the music played from a "tube" and the little mechanical drums etc.
Here's my oldest, the redheaded almost 10 year old! I just love this photo. This was taken in the garden of the Cotswald Cottage at the Porches and Parlors part of the Village. Oh, how I would love to have these gardens- especially with all the rock and slate and such.

She is standing right in front of their sundial.  Oh, how I wish I could have dug up a little of this and a little of that and a bit of some other from that garden! As you can see- it was a beautiful sunshiny fall day. Temps in the low 60's- just cool enough for us to need our coats. Because I love these gardens so much- my DH took a photo of my mom and me in the garden directly in front of the cottage- we're sitting on the stone edging.

Aren't we a pretty pair?!  My mom is such a fashion plate! Me- I throw on a shirt and jeans (the reg. mommy wardrobe) and she's decked out in black pants a beautiful top and then accessorizes with a scarf! I accessorize by combing my hair, brushing my teeth and putting on deoderant!

You are making me jealous! That looks like such a neat place to go. I love the picture of the little stone cottage behind your daughter in the garden. And yes, my mom also is always so "put together" while I am just lucky to put on a pair of jeans I even like. Maybe someday we'll be following in their footsteps of fashion?

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
