We had a mini-date

11:34 AM, 2006-Oct-4 .. Posted in Family Life .. 3 comments .. Link

Last nite my husband and I actually had a mini-date.
He surprised the family with a campfire after supper but DD9 was busy doing dishes and DD6 and DS got wrapped up in a video that DS2 put in.
So it ended up just being DH and I at the fire. He pulled his chair right up next to mine and we held hands and talked. Talked about our marriage and our children and prayer and how we're doing on it all. It was just such a lovely, romantic and relaxing time together.
So though I wasn't exactly thrilled with DS2 popped in that video I did finally see the light- that God was making a way for some much needed alone time with my husband.

Amy - Help! I made your apple spice cake from last week, only I put half the batter into cupcake liners so the kids could have it as a snack tomorrow afternoon (playdate). The cupcakes fell terribly! I have the other half of the batter in the over right now, in a 10 inch round pan. (I baked them separately - the cupcakes came out before the cake went in.)

Can you tell me if the cake you make rises and stays that way, or does it fall, too? After the fact, I thought that maybe the batter was too dense to stay where it is supposed to.

Thanks for the help, and the recipe - it smells so autumnish!

Amy, You probably heard on the news about the man who went into an Amish school house and shot 10 girls. 5 have died, I have heard 1 has been taken off life support and brought home to die, and the other 4 are hospitalized.
I live in MD, but I have been to this Amish area in PA several times. Our dining room furniture is from an Amish cabinet maker about 5 miles from where this incident took place. I have always had great respect for the Amish as they are truly devout Christians who endeavor to live honest, faithful lives.
I realize you are not Amish, but a comment coming out of that community confuses me. The Amish say it was God's will that this happen and that these children die. I understand that they feel that the children are innocent and have gone to heaven. I don't understand the "God's will" part.
The Amish believe that God's hand is in everything, and that all things only happen by God's will. I just can't imagine the terror these girls faced in their last minutes and the shootings are God's will.
What are your thoughts on this?

With four young ones, I can understand the "miracle" of alone time with your hubby. Most of the time we try to talk and get interrupted about 10 times!!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
