Panic!

1:12 PM, 2006-Jul-10 .. Posted in Family Life .. 3 comments .. Link
Had a bit of a panic attack yesterday when thinking over the family calendar. I am a bit concerned about everything coming up in September.
Come September, I will be: starting our first year homeschooling, beginning a new year of MOPS (I am the hospitality coordinator) and in charge of our church's monthly outreach ministry- complete with dinner put on by my youth group [And I'm also suppose to be the "speaker" and coordinate the music]. I have also been asked to start up another women's bible study @ our church. This is all on top of the normal sahm stuff and my youth pastor *stuff*.
Hence the panic attack.
Just when you're in the midst of enjoying the more laid-back routines of summer- panic hits ya' upside the head! Right away I said to myself "Nope, this isn't going to happen. I'm not going to panic. God is in charge."
The women's bible study will, of course, have to wait. I cannot (nor do I wish to) do it all. I am hoping to have more help with the youth group sponsored dinners and am praying for other speakers (other local youth pastors etc.) to be monthly speakers at our outreach event. I have a school schedule but since I've never done this before I know it will have to be *tweaked* a lot. My goal for the first year of homeschooling is to enjoy it- not just survive it, but enjoy it and to have my children enjoy it too. I keep reminding myself that in the public schools they don't always finish every text book etc. You simply cannot foster a love of learning by forcing them to finish every little detail.
I was recently talking with a friend and she said they didn't do all the science experiments during the school year. Instead, they did about 1 or 2 a month and saved the others to be done over summer break. I like that idea.
Part of me is wishing for time away. Let me clarify- not time away from my family but time away from other responsibilities. I am just daydreaming that it would be wonderful to just be home with the kiddos and homeschooling- not doing everything else. I have prayed about this. I do not know about all the "extras" but I will stay on as a youth pastor- I still feel this is what God wants. I do enjoy it and am really blessed with a great group of teens who are all eager to learn and go deeper in the Word (not just to have fun and eat! LOL).
For now I will continue in prayer, as always, seeking God's will. If it is His will that I be in the midst of all this activity come September then He will make a way for me to do so without stress and worry. Of that, I am confident.

Bible Study Idea

Does your women's group ever do the pre-packaged bible studies? I personally have been blessed by the Wisdom for Mothers study by Denise Glenn. Have you heard of it? There's a follow-up to it, Freedom for Mothers, that is deeper and more meaningful in the long run, I think, but the Wisdom study is good for an intro to Freedom.

Keep us posted on how you get it all juggled! Glad your daughter's arm is better.

MOPS

Hi Amy,
I have been a frequent reader of your posts for the past few weeks and have enjoyed getting to know you through them. When I read this post this morning I just knew it was time to join the gang at homesteadblogger and mention something to you that could be helpful. I was in a MOPS group for 11 years and on steering for about 5 of them. I know how time consuming that can be. One thing we did in our group was to create a new position to help out the hospitality coordinator. It was called "Special Events Coordinator" and she was in charge of anything hospitality above and beyond the meetings including the 2 brunches we had each year. We had a group of over 100 members so it may not be necessary for a smaller group but it was EXTREMELY helpful to ours. Just thought I'd throw the idea out to you cause it sounds like you've got an awfully full plate come fall! Praying with you and looking forward to finding out what happens with the farm!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
