Home Sweet Simple Home

Heard at my house today:

DD6: Mama, Mama!! Ma! [in very impatient out of breath, someone-did-something-to-me-and-I'm-gonna-tattle tone- every mom knows this tone.]
Mama: Yes, dear? Now let me remind you before you speak- we tattle only when someone is bleeding or dying. All other tattling is as punishable as the crime committed. Now what did you want to tell me? [spoken in that sickenly sweet tone that all mothers use thru gritted teeth]

DD6: I just wanted to tell you- I love you. [followed with a huge hug and kiss as she scrambles away- relieved to have saved herself from certain discipline.]

By the way- this is a daily occurance at our homestead.

I like your rule. I think I want to impliment that. Your girls are , what, 9 and 7? When did you start that rule and how long before they caught onto it and does it work? details, please

Learned this handy one from my own Mama and I started it as soon as they started with the tattling. I am a firm believer in them working out their own "problems"- sort of like them helping teach themselves the value of compromise and working together as well as finding out what it really worth running to mom for. So far it works pretty well.

Cute! :-) We have the "Double D" rule for tattling in our house. It must be dangerous or destructive. It *usually* works...:-)
Thank you for your post about Tamar. Yes, it is very sad. And there doesn't seem to be a purpose for it. Maybe it was just the changing point for David. How many daughters ie: concubines, slaves, etc. did he do the same thing to? Maybe now he had a taste of how all those fathers may have felt. Maybe the guilt of his own actions were the reason he did nothing for Tamar. It was hard to pick out a block for Tamar. I didn't want something ugly and sad for her, as ugly as her experience was. And I didn't want something bright and cheerful, because that wouldn't be true to history. I think this is probably the perfect passage to demonstrate the difference between love and lust. Thank you for your prayers. I think of you and often pray for you as I'm making the blocks, wondering what insight you'll have to the woman I'm studying. :-)

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD12- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD9- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added sweet flavor to our family.

DS5- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He's the little man and best helper around! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
