Reading Lists

1:47 PM, 2006-May-8 .. Posted in Family Life .. 3 comments .. Link

I’m starting to make my summer reading list and was just thinking of the books I’ve read lately and the ones I’ve been reading for months! My library has recently gotten in about 5 different books by some of my favorite authors so I put my name on the lists and have read a few.

In the past 3 weeks I’ve read:

Hitched by Carol Higgins Clark

The Cat who Dropped a Bombshell by Lillian Jackson Braun

Dark Torte by Diane Mott Davidson (I’m just finishing it).

I am so excited that I have been able to set aside some time to read 3 whole books in 3 weeks! I am passionate about reading and just haven’t had the time/made the time because of all it takes to run a home, take care of a family and being a youth pastor. I have to say that I think I am more mellow when I get a chance to read because reading takes me away for awhile- out of the hectic life and into a fantastic story. It's a mini-vacation.

So what are you reading and are you making a summer reading list?

Amy, me too. I looooove to read!! Like you, it is my escape, when I am reading a story....I am in it, right there....usually when the story ends....I feel like I am leaving old friends!!!
I have one DD that is a reader and one that is not!! People who are not readers do not understand the joy that it can bring!!
I usually have a couple of non-fiction and at least one fiction going!!

I love to read too : ) At the moment I'm mostly reading books about medieval monasticism in England (for a paper). I'm also reading a book called Green Living, it's non-fiction. My "just in case" book (which I have with me in case I have some extra time when I'm waiting for the bus for example) is the Waves by Virginia Woolf but I haven't been reading it in a while.

In the summer I'd like to read (this is just the fiction, my non-fiction list includes lots and lots of homemaking books : )
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Hamlet by William Shakespeare (English is my major and I've only read one of Shakespeare's plays so I should fix that soon : )
The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields
The Autograph Man by Zadie Smith
plus some books by Finnish authors

I'm really looking forward to summer holiday because then I'll have time to read more!

Ilona

PS. Congratulations for reading 3 books in 3 weeks! That's a lot when you have so many other things to do too : )

How I did it!

3 books in 3 weeks is a lot for me- I have to admit there were a couple of nights I stayed up way too late to finish a *really good part* and suffered for it the next day. But I'd have to say it was worth it! LOL

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
