Tackiness vs. simplicity
poor etiquette vs. saving $$ and a tree or two
We send out quite a few Christmas cards each year. Last year I was able to save some pennies by making Christmas postcards to send out- saved by making them myself and saved on postage.
This year the budget is even tighter.
So------ I’m thinking of sending Christmas greetings via e-cards through Dayspring.
I must ask- Is this a big no-no on the etiquette scale? Will I be vilified?
Of course, I can’t do all my cards this way as there are still some people on my list that don’t have email but I could cut my list way down.
By my calculations, I could save myself $20 easily.
I don’t know about you but $20 is a lot of cash here—in fact, that’s half the weekly grocery budget!
You know what? I send out as many e-mail CHRISTmas greetings as I can - and the rest ~ IF I can afford it ~ get snail mail cards. Sorry, if anyone is offended, but that's just the way it has to be.
The way my schedule is, many are "lucky" to get anthing from me. I can only do - and afford - so much. As my daddy used to say, "You can't do what you can't do." So, I do what I CAN - and sometimes that includes e-mail CHRISTmas greetings! :-)

Well... I can honestly say this year I'm pondering the same question! For the last couple of years I've contemplated only sending cards to very immediate family (which would mean 10 cards vs. 50+ for us), but this year money is so tight for us (can you hear the squeaking way up there where ya'll are at?) that I honestly don't know if we'll be able to afford postage. I've got the cards - cheap little packs I picked up during the summer... but it's going to cost $30-40 to mail them. Ouch!
I'm coming back to check what everyone else says... because I'm in the same boat as you! And yes, $20 is a lot of money these days - so I don't blame you for seeking a cheaper was to send Christmas cheer. :-)
I cut our list down drastically this year from last year (from 50 to about 25). Immediate family and close friends only. We send a picture postcard of the family every year, and these can be expensive, but I am searching for cheaper companies, etc.
I am definately sending some of mine through email!!! And I am not ashamed to do it. LMSO I will send a card and most likely a pic of our family around the tree. If they want to print it out and hang it on their refrigerator like most do with the picture postcards, great. If not, then I haven't wasted the price of the card, and postage!!!
