Home Sweet Simple Home

Easter with the Family

Yesterday was a truly beautiful and wonderful day. We had a special Easter Service @ our church that included baptism (in our new church baptistery) and then it was a quick run home to change clothes and grab food and then off to my Brother’s house of Easter dinner and family fun.

Our children got their Easter baskets after morning services- we feel it works better this way because we want to focus on the REAL meaning of this day. Only 2 pieces of candy in their baskets (Gram and Grampa really load up the Easter eggs for the hunt later on and they just don’t need it!). Instead we fill their baskets with books and little “stuff”- like hair bands and note cards and fancy tissues, little trains and bath salts and each kiddo gets a new kite. [It’s that time of year!] The DDs also got new Adventures in Odyssey CDs (I love giving these CDs and am always looking for an excuse/reason). Our family basket had a new outdoor game in it and the Narnia DVD as well as “stuff” for the garden. A family basket is a great way to give gifts that are for everyone or are needed for the home. Others might see seeds and garden paraphernalia as necessities but we see them as gifts and celebrate them as such!

The weather changed by mid-afternoon— first a brisk breeze then a chilly breeze and then a thunder storm! We were able to get the Easter egg hunt over with before the storm. The kiddos had so much fun. Now that my girls are a bit older the men hide their eggs a bit harder. My DD6 got a bit frustrated (she began picking up the “easy” eggs that were left out for the toddler boys and had to put them back!) but then she got the hang of looking in hidey-holes.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
