Spring planning

Yesterday we did a homeschool biology project for the entire family and dissected a fetal pig. It was interesting and I think the kids all learned a lot.

Last evening one of our first fresheners gave birth to a dead doeling. She was 12 days early and it was pretty small. I am not sure what went wrong. It was disappointing, but we will be able to use her milk. There are four more does who are 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fresheners who will be throwing kids within the next two weeks. It looks like twins at least for each of them.

After a couple of 50 degree days and some rain most of the snow is gone. We have a lot of mud and water lying around since the ground is frozen underneath, but it feels like spring is here. We are getting over to the barn and cleaning it up and cutting out the old dairy stanchions so we can put in animal stalls and a milking set-up for the goats. Hopefully next winter we will have nicer quarters for them and will be milking indoors. We would like to start raising meat goats, a few beefers, and some pastured poultry as well as a source of income.               

On Thursday we checked in with the area businesses which started carrying our goat milk soap and I was thrilled to add two local Agway (farm/garden stores) to my list of sellers. They are nice stores and the owner was positive about it. I think they will be a great place to do some substantial business. Not much online business yet...I have new photos to edit and post on the Soothing Spa page, and then I can advertise the massage oils (all natural with pure essential oil) and bath salts along with the bath & body oils.

Well, time to get to work and make the most of this Saturday!
