Hinds Feet on High Places

Valentine's 2007 Snow Pictoral

The snowstorm on Wednesday dumped well over a foot of snow, although with all the blowing and drifting we have no way to know for sure how much. I love snow but am glad we didn't get the potential 26" forcasted! Floundering through drifts with buckets of water for the goats is hard work! Not to mention, Honeydew prefers to keep the snow off her udder, thank you very much...

The extreme cold temperatures have continued...it usually hangs around zero in the mornings and gets into the low teens during the day.

I love your goats! I like your shelter too.How many goats fit in there? We got a big dump of snow too, with ice on top. ~Erin~

Well, Erin, the shelter in the bottom pic is currently housing two goats, because they have horns and the others don't. The older one won't let others in, so we have to tie her up in there at night so the others aren't afraid to go in.
The other shelter currently houses two young wethers, three doelings about 9 months old, and four older does. They all get along fine and keep each other warm.
I am glad we didn't get any of that ice...
Hopefully next year our barn will be in better condition to keep animals. That would be great, especially since we hope to have nine does kidding this year. Chances are, that will double or triple our goat population.
