Hinds Feet on High Places

Yay! My first batch of yogurt will be great after all!

Last post I mentioned making 2 batches (nine pints) of goat's milk yogurt but felt I left it in too long as it was a bit sour. We tried stirring in a bit of red raspberry jam, and it is simply delicious!!!

I am thrilled that my kids think so, too. So it won't go to waste and I can view this first try at home made yogurt a success. I warmed the milk and added 3T. yogurt culture and 1/2 c. powered milk (to help thicken the finished product) to each quart of milk, poured into clean pint jars, and set in a crock pot with water part way up the jars. Using a probe thermometer, I tried to keep the temp stabilized at 100-110 degrees, but that was a bit tricky-turning the crockpot on low for 10 or 15 minutes and then leaving it off for at least an hour was what I ended up doing. It got to 120 degrees at one point, which is not supposed to happen. But in the end it set very nicely. I left it in the crockpot for about 7 hours. A very nutritious and delicious addition to breakfast or lunch, or for a snack.
