Look at what I saw today!

               ~Greetings from our PA mountain homestead~

I was sitting on the grass under our apple tree this morning and a sweet little woodcock (also known as a timberdoodle) plopped gently down right in front of me, surprising us both! She was so close I could have touched her...all soft and beautiful, with an amazing long beak. We surveyed one another for an instant and she was gone. What a rare treat that was! Woodcocks are very shy and elusive creatures-I don't believe I have ever seen a live one before today; certainly not this up close and personal.

I never get tired of the small surprises that the outdoors offer. Sounds of the birds in the treetops in the fall and spring as they are migrating, a deer over in the lawn. The other day I was in our swing out front and a hummingbird flew in to the wild rose bush that is next to it for a rest. I sat there a long time just watching in wonder of such a small creature. Beatiful!
