rain rain, go away...

I'm seriously thinking about building an ark.  It's been one of those weird years - no rain, then nonstop rain.  Back to no rain to the point of drought, and now we are back to worrying about flood stages again.

One of the calves is really not liking the weather.  I've never read about this happening with anyone else, so maybe we just pick the weird depressed cows - but it's common here.  we bring these babies home, too young to be away from their mom's, but the dairy farmers are selling them off the day they are born.  :-(  We bottle feed them and most do very well..  but we have one out there, again, that gets depressed.  I don't know how else to explain it, but if I don't go check on him he'll sprawl out like he's dying, and he actually gets cold and has trouble getting up, he gets weak.  I've seen this with others, and if I don't go roust them up and get them moving, they die.  Well this calf was doing very well, he's several months old, but since this weather started, he's been doing this.  I had to roust him twice today.  Both times I thought he was already dead when I got to him, but once I got him up and around he did well.

We have two new goats.  Goofy things - they escaped from 3 different pens, ending up at the gate of the lower goat pen, crying for in.  I don't like to put new goats in with my herd for at least two weeks, I typically keep them in quarantine pens, but they were determined!  I hope they really are disease free, they are in with my best mom's!

We have two new bunnies too - I picked them up at the Amish sale on Saturday.  A new angora (French?  she is different from my other French angora though!) and a lion head.  That brings us to 6 - two English angoras, one French angora, the new angora, a full sized calico rex and the lionhead.  That's enough for the winter!

Weird video link - I feel the need to pass this along so you can be as puzzled/amused as I am.  :-)

I'm working on a denim chenille quilt for Matt, made out of his old jeans and an old t-shirt.  Instructions here.  It's coming together fast now, I should have all the sewing done tomorrow, hopefully!

The kids and I did another geocache on Monday.  It was a gorgeous hike over in the gamelands, and we picked up another coin - a new icon in our geocaching profile.  We're so addicted!  :-)
