Just to catch you up on the past week, hard to believe it is May already, this year is almost half over! Thursday morning we lost 20 broilers when they piled up on each other during the rainy night! Sad and messy to say the least. Friday we weaned some of the older goat kids, since we did it by the almanac it went very smoothly. Saturday was a busy day, the first Farmers Market in Emporia. I had baked some lemon poppy seed bread and muffins on Friday. Friday afternoon was also the first Market in Burlington, but it was so horribly windy we decided not to attend that one. Hubby loaded up early and went to the Market, I got the morning chores done and then rode to Yates Center to the Exotic animal auction with some friends. They were taking some critters to sell, we didn't take anything this time. It is called an exotic sale, but for the most part it is llamas, alpacas, ponies, donkeys, goats and sheep. A few cattle, and usually lots of poultry and rabbits. However this sale there was very little in the poultry/rabbit area. There was a camel, a zebra, some Watusi cattle, pot bellied pigs........there are usually a few unusual critters there for fun. We did not buy anything, which is unusual too! We are talking about cutting back as the feed is just getting higher and higher!! Hubby stopped at home after Market, which went well by the way, and picked up some ducks we needed to deliver to a guy at the sale, and the 4 puppies that did not have forever homes yet. As soon as he got to the auction we sat on the tailgate of the pickup with the puppies and found homes for each of them in about an hour or so! And that is not all...........we are expecting a litter of Pry/Antalonian in a couple of weeks and 2 of them are already spoken for!! Just as we drove in our driveway coming home some folks were leaving us a note, they wanted a butcher goat. So sold a goat as soon as we got home. Sunday afternoon the familes that had picked out their puppies the weekend before came and got them (one of them took 2 puppies, but in the deal we ended up with 3 kittens!) And some folks that had put a deposit down on our buck came and picked him up as well! So after the weekend we have 4 less ducks, 7 less puppies, 2 less goats to feed! Monday, hubby had Dr. appointments in Topeka. A fasting lab at 11:45? Needless to say.......he was ready for lunch as soon as that was over! We enjoy eating at Coyote Canyon and usually do when we are in town for Dr. appointments. Then back to see the Dr. who changed several meds, a stop at Goodwill, always fun for us, and a stop to see some of the grandkids for a few minutes! Then home to do chores of course. This morning I did some worming of goats and gave some kids their CDT shots. Did some laundry........was way behind on that! Found a Muscovy duck with 20 brand new babies this morning, so cute! Not much else exciting to talk about today. The garden is doing well! We had green onions to sell and I have had radishes to eat several meals.......yummy! Tomorrow evening our church is hosting a dinner for the Senior class. This is the 55th year it has been held! Hubby and I are in charge of the food. Problem being there are 22 in the class, and we have no idea how many to expect?? There is an honor student banquet for the whole county at the same time, and the National Champion KU Jayhawk basketball team is playing some local basketball players tomorrow evening too including some Seniors from our school!!
