Things around the farm this week

{ 09:59, Tuesday, April 29, 2008 } { 2 comments } { Link }

I see it has been a week since I posted last..........time goes so fast!   Hurry, hurry, you only have through tomorrow to tell me about your critters!!   I have had some cute and interesting entries, you really need to check out the comments.  A couple of friends who read my blog entered via email to tell me their pets, one stated that her only pet was her hubby!  (Hi Bonnie)   I really should have listed my critters, so here they are:

65 laying hens

3 roosters

260 meat birds

5 guineas

2 geese

15 ducks  (2 are setting currently)

2 pheasents

5 turkeys  (1 is setting)

53 goats

4 llamas

1 donkey

12 dogs (8 are the puppies)

6 cats (3 are young kittens)

4 rabbits

For a total of 437

There are changes all the time, so here is the update:

Sold 35 meat birds,  3 meat birds died, lost 2 guineas,   So as of today the total is:   397

It  would be fun to keep track, I think I will try to remember to put the count in a post each month.

Random activities on the farm the past week............Kaylan spent from Wednesday until Sunday with us.  We planted more potatoes and onions.  I have done some transplanting in the greenhouse of some herbs that we started from seed.   Hubby set a few tomatoes out, then covered them as we had a couple of really cold nights, but everything seems ok.  We live on somewhat of a hill, so the frost doesn't bother us quite as bad.  Had a nice long phone conversation with DIL which doesn't happen often enough, just because we don't take the time to sit down and call.  Served a funeral dinner at church today, so that meant a trip to the grocery store yesterday for supplies.   Banned 2 little buck goats for Nick's 4-H project today.  Went to an auction on Saturday, didn't buy a thing!  Attended Bible study on Wednesday evening, church on Sunday morning, Mom came home with us for dinner on Sunday.  Had 2 families come and pick out their new puppy!!

Today is our only daughter and her hubby's 20th wedding anniversary,  Congrats to Jody and Jimmy!

I mentioned Kaylan was here, she is the 4 year old grandaughter.  She had such fun playing with the puppies!!   You guessed it,  we have a favorite.........we, meaning Kaylan, myself and Grandpa!  So I believe little Sassy will be joining our family.

Sad news to share,  Kaylan was here because her Mama was going through a rough time.  Finding out she was pregnant and then only 4 days later losing the baby.   We just have to remember  that God knows best.

 Country Blessings,

Hey Marilyn,
I see you have turkeys and chickens on your critter list, do you keep them together or separated? Have you had any trouble with blackhead disease?
Thanks, Carol

The turkeys are not in the chicken house, but they are all right in the same area, and no problem with black head yet anyway. I know some say you can't have them together, but many folks raise them together with no problem.
