Heritage Hill Homestead

One Hundred

{ 11:45, Tuesday, April 22, 2008 } { 10 comments } { Link }

In celebration of this being my 100th entry on Homestead Blogger, I am having a contest!

Since my main interest on our homestead is critters:  I want you to leave a comment with the number of critters you currently have to care for at your place, and which is your favorite.

I was amazed when I just wrote everybody down and came up with 437!!  Now that is a lot of critters......no wonder it takes me a while to do chores!  Now my favorite?  Well it depends on who I am with at the time, but probably the goats are my favorite.

I will give you until the 30th to count them up and then will pick a winner..........and the prize is..........a set of my homemade hot pads.   I know that has nothing to do with critters, but  everyone needs hot pads, right?

Looking forward to hearing from each of you!

Country Blessings,

Marilyn~at Heritage Hill Homestead

Critters...

{ 07:27, Wednesday, April 23, 2008 } { Posted by ttwal }
I have 42 critters (46 if I count my 3 boys and hubby)!
Chickens, goats, rabbits, dog and cat. It is very hard to pick a favorite although Spice(baby goat) is my boy! I am nowhere near your number but when you start adding them all up it is a surprise. Thanks for the contest.

Critter Count

{ 07:23, Wednesday, April 23, 2008 } { Posted by birdlady }
Hi, there! I noticed that you're at your 100th post! Congratulations!! I just had mine and am also having a giveaway, so please come over and enter! On our homestead we have 21 critters - not many compared to yours! We have 8 parrots in the house, as well as 1 cat, and 1 dog. Outside, we have a plump duck, 2 Guinea hens, 2 roosters, 3 brown hens, one banty hen, and 3 goats. We also have hundreds of wild ducks that we feed each day, but they don't count! :-> My favourite are my parrots, but I love all our animals dearly - true blessings from God - each and every one! Thanks for entering me in your contest and please pop by to enter mine!

We don't have very many critters at all right now. I'll count our 4 steers that are being delivered tomorrow morning since they are technically ours. LOL

We have 17 critters. 8 cows, 2 chickens, 2 goats, 1 piglet, 2 Great Pyr dogs, 1 Jack Russel Terrier, 1 barncat....and a partridge in a pear tree....LOL. Ok, not really, I just couldn't resist.

Hugs,
Lisa <--who is tired just thinking about you taking care of all those critters! WOW!

Ok, I'm editing because I forgot to put my favorites. I think my favorites are the chickens. I never tire of their antics...

Oh My, Yes, I see why your chores would take a LONG...time. :~)
There are 53 fur or feathered babies around here... lol
to include: horses, cow, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, and a chinchilla.
Congrats on your 100th post anniversary!

I have at least 14. I didn't count the chickens.

The goats! I am not sure which I like best though

Ok this is a post I posted a while back about my critter count. It's more for laughs then anything but I'll enter it in anyway. Just to make it official I'll say that our favorite is our dog Murphy. Well here it is. As previously posted on my blog. Thank you for even considering me lol.

I've always been a bit jealous of the blogs that have their cool critter counts on their side bars. You know the ones that have 3 goats, 2 horses, 10 chickens etc. Well I decided it was time for me to give you as accurate an account of our critters as possible. They will be a bit different as we do not live in the country as of yet but we love "most" of them just the same. Okay, here it goes:

10-15 squirrels

3-5 black snakes

1 rat snake

5-10 mole crickets

16-20 mourning doves

1 million mites on my hibiscus bushes

1000 mosquitos

300-400 lizards

100-150 wolf spiders

1 billion fire ants

10-15 skinks

25-50 geckos

1 cat (periodically)

1 iguana ( sited now and again)

and last but not least our 13 year old lab. Murphy

I'm sure I"m leaving some of our precious critters out but for now that's all I could account for. Now don't be jealous with our critter count. It took me awhile to get over all of yours and with therapy I'm sure that you will all be fine.

Blessings,
Kim

Let's see-2 dogs, 1 cat, 4 goats, 5 cows, 2 horses, 2 donkeys, 25 chickens for a grand total of 41. I think. Wow, that's more than I thought we had. I have two favorites, donkeys and goats. They are the animals that love you back. They are affectionate, and silly.
Also, the reason I give comfrey to the goats and chickens in the winter is to help with milk and egg production. I buy kelp and then mix dried nettles and comfrey. I give this in combination. The kelp goes to the horses from time to time too. It's also good for bones, teeth, hair, and fertility.
I'm not sure if it's made a difference, but I hope it helps them stay healthier through the winter.
Rhonda

You made me count!

• Cats - 4
• Dogs - 1
• Layer Chickens - 40
• Broiler Chickens - 74
• Turkeys - 3
• Ducks - 8
• Rabbits - 22
• Highlander cattle - 2
• Goats - 14
• Sheep - 2
• Llamas - 2
• Pigs - 1

That's 172 I do believe. We have another highlander coming in July and 3 more sheep coming on Thursday. Oh yes, and 5 litters of rabbits coming this week.
My favorite would be my rabbit, Sweet Pea.
