Our weekend

Friday was a long day, leaving home before 6:30 am and not getting back to the homestead until 5 or so.  Hubby had blood work done and and xray early.  We then headed to Manhattan to pick up more chickens........we got 20 pullets and 200 broilers that are 3 weeks old.  Then back to Topeka, a stop at the Goodwill store, then to a check up with his new Dr.   We were a little nervous about leaving all of those chickens in the truck...........could just imagine coming out and seeing chickens all over the parking lot.........not a good thought!  So, I sat in the truck chicken-sitting for 2 hours.  It was quite cool, so we didn't have to worry about them getting hot under the camper shell.   Then home to get the birds settled in and do chores.  Everyone was glad to see us home!

Saturday we went to an auction, it was a nicer day so we enjoyed being out and poking around the treasures.  Our big purchase was a chest freezer for $2.  Came home to find a note that some of the kids had come by to see us and we missed them..........

By today, Sunday, we were tired and moving kind of slow.  Didn't make it to church this morning.  We had a buffalo roast for dinner with potatoes and carrots.  It was really good.  It was 80 degrees here today, quite warm, but also windy.  This afternoon some friends came and picked up some broilers, they are wanting to try their hand at raising and processing their own.  We so enjoy visiting with this family, wish they lived closer so we could visit more often.   They also brought a jar of their homegrown honey for us!  Thank you Carmen.

I cut some more seed potatoes today, intend to get them in the ground tomorrow before it rains.  Things are growing fairly well in the garden, will do better when we have more warm days and sunshine.  Hubby has done some mowing already.

A 2.00 freezer, now thats my kind of deal! We had to go into the 'city' Saturday and we were blown away at ALL the people. We adjusted to country life fast (in 2 years) and we all breathed a sigh of relief to be home and away from the hustle and bustle.
